George R.R. Martin has finally delivered the news we've been eagerly awaiting! The acclaimed author behind Game of Thrones has shared an exciting update about HBO’s upcoming prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Back in June 2025, news broke that Martin would be attending New York Comic Con 2025 as a guest. However, we had no idea what he'd have in store for fans. Well, that's until now. On the latest blog post on his website, Martin shared with readers that at NYCC 2025, he’ll be introducing A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and participating in a special panel alongside the showrunner and the actors playing Dunk and Egg.
"We’re excited to announce GRRM will be headed to New York Comic Con this October to introduce the new HBO series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. There will be a panel with Showrunner Ira Parker alongside Peter Claffey & Dexter Sol-Ansell who play Dunk & Egg. So keep your ears to the ground for more details on time and room information."
No, you didn't read that wrong! A panel is actually happening. Although no details were provided about it, fans can probably expect the panel to include exclusive insights into the highly anticipated series, behind-the-scenes stories, and perhaps even sneak peeks or surprises from the world of Westeros that only Martin and the team could reveal. With showrunner Ira Parker and the show's leading stars Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell also in attendance, fans are surely in for an unforgettable experience!
NYCC 2025 is from Oct. 9 to Oct. 12. According to the NYCC site, Martin will be at the fan event on Thursday and Saturday. On Thursday, Oct. 9, the one-hour special panel will take place. Then, on Saturday, Oct. 11, another one-hour panel will take place that's solely focused on Martin.
Martin and Parker co-created A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. It's a fantasy series that takes place roughly a hundred years prior to the events of Game of Thrones. Additionally, it's adapted from Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas. The story follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, a courageous but untested knight, and his clever young squire, Egg, as they journey across Westeros. Claffey takes on the role of Dunk, and Ansell as Egg. Other talented actors in the main cast are Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Tanzyn Crawford, Daniel Ings, and Sam Spruell.
The first season is slated to start airing on HBO sometime early next year. In addition, a second and third season are reportedly in the works. It's also rumored that they will be shot back-to-back. However, HBO has not officially confirmed these details. That said, we'll have to wait for official word from the network before we can really celebrate.
