The third season of Invincible, Prime Video's adaptation of Robert Kirkman's superhero comic book series, premieres on February 6, and hype is rising. The first two seasons have built up a lot of momentum, and the third will plunge characters like Mark Grayson, aka Invincible (Steven Yuen), headlong into a violent conflict with the Viltrumites, a race of warmongering space aliens intent on conquering Earth. We're about to enter one of the darkest, densest periods of the comic, and at this point we can trust the show to bring it to us without compromise.
Prime Video released a bunch of new images from the upcoming season. Above is Powerplex, aka Scott Duvall, a new villain who has an axe to grind against both Invincible and his father Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). The first season of Invincible concluded with an all-out brawl between father and son, with lots of bystanders killed in the process. In the comics, one of them was Powerplex's sister. Now he's going to bend his electrokinetic powers to one end: defeating Invincible and his menace of a family.
And Mark's family is growing. Below, we have a new image of his mom Debbie (Sandra Oh) and his half-brother Oliver, the son of Omni-Man and a bug woman from a distant world. Debbie has agreed to raise Oliver, who grows at a much faster rate than a normal human.
And of course there's Mark himself. In season 3, he'll change out his yellow, green and black suit from the first two seasons for a black-and-blue one, which coincides with him getting more serious about his responsibilities as a superhero.
We'll also catch up with Mark's friends, like Atom Eve (Gillian Jacobs), seen here during another day on the job:
The official trailer for Invincible season 3 focused a lot of the conflict between Mark and Cecil Stedman (Walton Goggins), a government bureaucrat who works with superheroes with the goal of safeguarding the country and the planet...which sometimes means he has to fight against superheroes who threaten that peace. Cecil and Mark may have the same goal, but Cecil's methods can be extreme, and he fears that Mark could follow in his father's footsteps and turn on the planet. In the trailer, we see that he has a few failsafes in place should Mark go rogue.
One of those failsafes appears to be an army of robot men.
Will Mark and Cecil's partnership survive the season? We'll find out when Invincible season 3 premieres on Prime Video on Thursday, February 6! If Prime Video stays true to form, the first three episodes will drop at once with the rest coming out one by one every week thereafter.
