HBO is currently filming the third season of House of the Dragon, and we're getting a close-up view of a lot of the action. Tons of reports and set pics have been leaking lately as the show films on location in Wales and England, and the flood hasn't stopped. Beware SPOILERS beyond this point!

A lot of the on-location filming in Wales has involved the Battle of the Gullet, a huge naval battle that was originally supposed to serve as the climax to the second season of the show. It's now been pushed to the start of the third; expect to see it in the premiere episode.

The Battle of the Gullet involves a clash between a fleet led by Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) on the one side and a fleet captained by Sharako Lohar (Abigail Thorn) on the other; Corlys fights for Queen Rhaenyra and Lohar on behind of her rival King Aegon II. If the show follows George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood, and in this case it looks like it will, Lohar's pirates will also lay waste to Driftmark, the island seat of House Velaryon. Several dragon-riders are also involved in the battle, namely Rhaenyra's son Jacaerys (Harry Collett) as well as the peasants who recently became dragon-riders, including Hugh Hammer (Kieran Bew), Ulf White (Tom Bennett) and Addam of Hull (Clinton Liberty). In the book, there's another newly minted dragonrider named Nettles who joins the battle. Much to my dismay, it looks like the show has cut her, although I can see Daemon Targaryen's daughter Baela (Bethany Antonia) taking on her role during the Battle of the Gullet.

And that brings us to our new set pics, gathered by the always-reliable House the Dragons. We see Baela Targaryen, Corlys Velaryon, Addam of Hull and Addam's brother Alyn (Abubakar Salim) all gathered on the beach on Driftmark:

These images are purportedly from the second episode of season 3, so after we expect the Battle of the Gullet to have wrapped up. I imagine that Baea, Corlys, Addam and Alyn are surveying the damage and assessing the situation as the story moves into a new phase; the Battle of the Gullet, and what happens right after, marks a big shift for the dynamics on the show, at least in the book.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in Wales, filming continues on scenes set in a Hightower camp:

We'll see all of this for ourselves when new episodes of House of the Dragon premiere on HBO and HBO Max sometime next year.
