The countdown is officially on for House of the Dragon season 3 now that HBO has finally given the highly anticipated season its June 21 premiere date. Until the new season begins and we can dive into updated topics of discussion, we're still looking back and reflecting on the past two seasons while also hanging onto the latest teases from stars like Fabien Frankel.
Obviously, it's not a secret that Frankel's character Ser Criston Cole isn't a fan favorite based on all of the questionable and heinous decisions he has made, but the actor knows that. While he has faced backlash himself for his character's choices, the House of the Dragon star is now admitting that he's right there with fans when Criston frustrates and infuriates the fandom.
During his appearance at CCXP Mexico, Frankel responded to the host's admission that Criston "gets on my nerves" and agreed with a laugh, "Me too. More than I would like to, okay?" The actor shared that there have been many instances on set where he questioned Criston's behavior, saying "Oh my God, is he really going to do that? Are we serious?" Unfortunately, yes, Criston is serious!

But if you're one of the few House of the Dragon fans hoping for Criston to even out in season 3, it doesn't sound like the character is in any hurry to change his ways or turn over a new leaf. After all, most fans know that quite the opposite would ultimately happen for Criston the deeper we get into the series, and Frankel's additional comments further confirm a continued villainous arc.
"I’m excited for people to see what Criston Cole gets up to in season 3," Frankel teased at CCXP Mexico. "If you’ve got worries now, watch the next eight episodes, I think."
House of the Dragon season 3 continues to delve into the bitter feud known as the Dance of the Dragons, and there are many more epic battles coming up in the new episodes, including the Battle of the Gullet and Butcher's Ball. The latter of these battles could be a real turning point for Criston in an especially violent way, though for spoiler reasons, we'll spare fans of the show exactly how.
Still, it's not as though anyone actually expected that Criston would have a redemption arc pulled out of thin air, and that's honestly not what most fans would be rooting for. We always need a villain, a character to love to hate (though don't take it too far!), and that's traditionally been Criston, among other characters. He still has plenty more tricks up his sleeve, and that's his fatal flaw.
After the intense situations he has faced due to the actions of his character, it's nice to see that Frankel can have a laugh with fans this time and poke fun at Criston himself. And as much as Criston antagonizes everyone on screen, including his portrayer, he wouldn't be inspiring this kind of reaction if Frankel wasn't completely throwing himself into the character. Let's see what he brings next!
