How many seasons of Outlander are there?

Starz dropped another new episode of Outlander today, the twelfth episode of the seventh season, "Carnal Knowledge." We're currently in the back half of the seventh season, the first half having wrapped up all the way back in August of 2023. With over a year between the first second halves of this season, fans could be forgiven for thinking they were two separate seasons entirely. But the reality is that there have only been seven seasons of Outlander aired so far, with an eighth and final season wrapping up the show sometime in the future.

Here are all eight seasons of Outlander complete with episode counts and dates:

• Outlander season 4: 2018-2019

Is there a season 8 of Outlander?

As you can see, the various seasons of Outlander have aired in several different ways over the years. Generally speaking, most seasons have aired every episode in sequence from front to back. The first and the seventh seasons and the only ones so far to be aired in two different parts, and the sixth season was delayed and abbreviated due to the pandemic. The seventh season was spread out over a particularly long period of time, and won't end until January of next year.

There is an eighth and final season on the way, but we don't know when it will air. Principle photography on the final season has been done for months, which might imply that the producers could get new episodes out relatively quickly. But they may stretch things out. There's a new Outlander prequel series called Blood of My Blood airing in 2025, and I suspect that Starz may want to give that some space before delivering Outlander season 8 in 2026.
