Interview With the Vampire is transforming into The Vampire Lestat and star Jacob Anderson is discussing how wild season 3 will become.

The late, great Anne Rice wrote scores of successful supernatural novels, but her Vampire Chronicles remains her everlasting legacy. After a famous 1994 movie with Tom Cruise as Lestat and the sadly flopped Queen of the Damned in 2002, AMC revived the franchise with a series based on Interview With The Vampire in 2022.

The series updated the tale a bit, telling how early 20th-century man Louis (Jacob Anderson) was seduced by the vampire Lestat (Sam Reid) and embarked on a twisted relationship that included turning a child named Claudis into a vampire. Louis related his entire tale to interviewer Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) who ended season 2 becoming a vampire himself.

Season 3 will move onto the second book in The Vampire Chronicles, The Vampire Lestat. That includes changing the show’s title as Lestat has decided to embrace the fame from Louis’ book by becoming a rock star. His power and influence over both vampires and humans grows as a strange Great Conversion is affecting the vampire populace.

Speaking to TV Insider, Anderson was asked if this new season directly copies the original novel or blends in original tales with other plots from Rice’s other books.

“I think you can safely assume that it’s in conversation with things from later books, but not a one-to-one necessarily. It’s very surprising. Some very surprising things. Very surprising and uncomfortable things happen as the season goes on with Louis.”

Anderson added he likes to protect spoilers as “it’s something that is not from The Vampire Lestat, Louis’ story in this season. So, it’s nice to keep it mysterious.”

Even if book readers know the main plot, there still seems a chance for some surprises to come.

Season 2 had the heartbreaking moment where Claudia was executed by the vampire coven for attacking Lestat. Delainey Hayles will be back in season 3, but it’s unclear if it’s in flashbacks, as a ghost, a dream sequence, or something else.

Anderson was tight-lipped on that as well as the relationship between Louis and vampire Armand (Assad Zaman), simply stating, “We’ll have to wait and see.”

Anderson still insisted that this new season retains the aspects that made the show work, including “the humanity and the terror and the trauma, but also the sense of humor."

Despite the title, The Vampire Lestat will be as much about Louis as it is about the titular vampire rocker. The pair’s twisted relationship will play out on a bigger stage to make this show hotter than ever despite how much fun Anderson promises.

The Vampire Lestat premieres June 7, 2026, on AMC and AMC+. Stay tuned for more news about the upcoming series on AMC and AMC+. We'll be covering the full season on Winter is Coming.
