There’s no telling when we’ll get the chance to read new content from George R.R. Martin, but it seems that fans will soon be able to see some of his unpublished pages come to life on the small screen.
In the upcoming second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, fans will get the chance to enjoy previously unpublished material written by Martin. Showrunner Ira Parker broke the news over the summer, revealing that not only does Martin remain an active collaborator on the series, but he actually gifted Parker with unpublished pages from the Dunk and Egg novellas to use in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2.
“He gave me some unpublished pages—actual written prose he found in his files somewhere that he sent over, and we used them,” Parker told The Hollywood Reporter.
Parker continued by explaining that these pages are canon to the events of the Dunk and Egg novellas, teasing the new material as something intended for the super fans out there enjoying the show.
“Yeah. For the deep super fans, we got some extra stuff that—as far as George’s filing cabinets are concerned—is canon,” Parker shared.
Of course, Parker did not give any further details on the unpublished pages the show will be adapting in season 2; however, it is truly exciting to know that we’re going to see scenes depicting actual moments Martin himself wrote, which were intended for the original novellas but did not make the final cut. And while there was no context given about the scenes, we’re certain that when A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 finally rolls around in 2027, those super fans will quickly be able to spot the new scenes when they’re woven into the narrative thanks largely to how faithful Parker has been to the source materials.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 was celebrated by the fans as being one of the best adaptations of Martin’s work, one that truly brought the story he had written to life and honored the source material. Sure, there were some minor changes made, which often must happen with book-to-screen adaptations, but as a collective piece of work A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 masterfully brought the story told in "The Hedge Knight" to life by honoring Martin’s work, not using it simply as a loose reference.
It is expected that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 will follow suit and faithfully adapt the second novella in the series, "The Sworn Sword." Considering how closely the first season followed the book it was based on, those super fans will likely be able to clock where in the story those unpublished pages from Martin come into play before Parker or Martin even address their inclusion, knowing that those scenes were not in the book.
This gives fans yet another reason to be excited for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2, as we’ll not only be getting what is sure to be an incredible season but also the chance to see new material from Martin come to life on the screen. The fact that he handed those unpublished pages over to Parker, who then put them to use in the season, shows just how much these two men trust each other and the respect they have for one another. Their collaboration has shown how a successful working partnership can translate to a faithful adaptation both book fans and fans of the broader TV franchise can enjoy.
We cannot wait to see how these new unpublished pages weave into the season 2 storylines and are so excited to see what Parker, Martin, and the entire team have cooked up for the second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms!
