Mayfair Witches star teases crossover with Interview With The Vampire

AMC wants to build out a shared universe based on the works of Anne Rice, which could be great or could be awkward. We'll keep watching to find out which.

The second season of Mayfair Witches, based on Anne Rice's horror novels of the same name, is off and running on AMC. The network has a plan to build out an entire shared universe of spooky shows based on the work of Anne Rice. The excellent second season of Interview With The Vampire aired last year, and later this year we're getting The Talamasca, named for the supernatural in charge of keeping tabs on vampires, witches, and so forth.

Agents from The Talamasca have already shown up in both Interview and Mayfair Witches, laying the foundation. Tongayi Chirisa, who plays Talamasca agent Ciprien Grieve on Mayfair, teased more crossover action in the future. "Without saying too much, a lot of things go down in the season finale that definitely open Cip's world up in a way that he was not expecting," he told ScreenRant. "Certain events [from Interview with the Vampire] are mentioned in Mayfair Witches, one of which could be the next mission that Cip needs to go investigate. He may have to pop in and settle some issues with the vampires — I'm just saying. I don't know, but it seems like we're heading that way."

At the end of Interview With The Vampire season 2, Louis (Jacob Anderson) publishes a book about his life as a vampire with the help of journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian), which angers a lot of other vampires who don't want their secrets known. If I had to guess, I'd say that's the event Cip might catch wind of in this season of Mayfair Witches.

Expect an Interview With The Vampire character to show up this season on Mayfair Witches

We may be getting more of a direct crossover in the form of a character from Interview With The Vampire showing up on Mayfair Witches sometime this season, as producer Mark Johnson hinted to Collider last year. "I assumed going into this that it truly was a franchise, and that the Immortal Universe and the Anne Rice world was somehow more connected. But in a strange way, with the shows that we’re making and developing, they aren’t directly connected," he said. "With that said, we’re discovering that there are some characters that it does work with. There’s somebody from Interview that’s going to appear in Mayfair Witches, but she’s much more complicated than I thought she was."

I honestly don't know who Johnson could be talking about; while there are female characters in the flashback sections of Interview With The Vampire, more or less the only characters we meet in the modern-day sections are Louis, Daniel and Armand (Assad Zaman). New episodes of Mayfair Witches drop on AMC on Sundays, so I guess we'll just have to watch to find out the particulars.

Personally, I'm a little afraid that AMC might be going a little too far with this Immortal Universe thing. I loved the first two seasons of Interview With The Vampire and eagerly await the third, which probably isn't coming until 2026. But the reception for Mayfair Witches has been far more muted and I'm nervous about The Talamasca.

Interestingly, Lestat (Sam Reid) from Interview With The Vampire and Rowan (Alexandra Daddario) from Mayfair Witches do eventually strike up an unlikely romance in Anne Rice's books; who knows if the shows will ever get to that point? Personally, what I'm most interested in right now is see what merry hell Lestat raises in Interview With The Vampire season 3:
