As House of the Dragon season 3 enters the final stretch of filming, one of its stars is promising major events for the hit Game of Thrones spinoff.

The HBO series ended season 1 on a high note as it kicked off the Dance of the Dragons. This is the civil war between the families of House Targaryen that would reshape all of Westeros. Season 2 saw the war in full swing with brutal deaths on both sides.

A key moment in season 2 was when Dowager Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) secretly met Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), as they both realized this whole war started because Alicent misunderstood her husband’s dying words to usurp the throne for her son. The season ended with Alicent offering to surrender King’s Landing, only to learn that it would cost her her son's life.

How House of the Dragon season 3 will begin

While the season had a lot of twists and drama, it was criticized by many for its slower pace and lack of action. While speaking to Collider, Cooke provided some teases for season 3 that indicate the show might just make up for what season 2 was missing.

"Well, I think I can say for the show that it is, you know, it starts off with a bang," she shared. "The first two eps were essentially supposed to be our finale last year. So you can just imagine coming into that sort of energy. It's bigger and more ferocious than ever before, I think is what I can say."

House of the Dragon season 2 Episode 5

That's good news to fans who were annoyed that some of the key conflicts of the Dance of the Dragons, such as the Battle of the Burning Mill, happened off-screen. Season 3 should include some major events and game-changing deaths. Based on the way season 2 ends and what we've heard about season 3, the premiere should include the highly anticipated Battle of the Gullet.

Fans of Game of Thrones loved the series's incredible action sequences, which were some of the most epic ever put on TV. In contrast, House of the Dragon hasn't done as much on that scale.

Here's to hoping that House of the Dragon season 3 is the most action-packed so far. If it follows the source material, Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin, it will have to be. The series has been confirmed for a fourth season, which will mark its conclusion.

The first two seasons of House of the Dragon are now streaming on HBO Max. The third installment is expected sometime in 2026.
