Check out this Dune credit sequence done in the style of Game of Thrones

We haven't seen the intro to the upcoming show Dune: Prophecy yet, but if it looks like this we'll be happy.

The Game of Thrones opening credits sequence is one of the most iconic of all time. You know the one: the camera sweeps over a stylized map of the Seven Kingdoms as we swing by all the locations we'll visit that episode. It's visually interesting AND useful!

Over on YouTube, Inventor Headquarters thought so too, because they went and mocked up an opening credits sequence to a hypothetical Dune TV show that uses the template from the Game of Thrones intro. So instead of flying over castles like Winterfell or the Red Keep, we visit various planets in the Dune universe like Salusa Secundus, Giedi Prime, and of course Arrakis, aka Dune, the sandy nightmare planet where the bulk of the main story takes place. Watch the video at the top of this post! It's very nice work.

As it happens, HBO is working on a Dune TV series called Dune: Prophecy, set thousands of years before characters like Paul Atreides are born. House Atreides itself is still around, though; we'll meet new characters like Keiran Atreides (Chris Mason), a swordmaster who gets involved with a member of the royal family:

Dune: Prophecy will mostly revolve around the formation of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood, with characters like Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams) and Valya Harkonnen (Emily Watson) taking center stage. But it's a big universe, and we expect lots of drama up and down the chain. We haven't seen what the intro sequence will look like, but they could do a lot worse than what Inventor Headquarters came up with. Maybe all epic HBO shows should just have opening credits sequences with stylized maps that change with every episode.

Dune: Prophecy is due out on HBO and Max this November. Beyond that, director Denis Villenueve is working on a third Dune movie that will continue adapting the Dune books by Frank Herbert, but we haven't heard anything about a release date for that one yet.
