House of the Dragon stars debate who will win: Team Black or Team Green?
By Dan Selcke
Last month, HBO started to build hype for the second season of House of the Dragon by releasing two trailers, one focused on "Team Black" and the other on "Team Green," the two rival factions of the Targaryen family that will soon be tearing each other apart over the Iron Throne. Do you support the right of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen to rule the Seven Kingdoms, or are you behind her half-brother King Aegon II Targaryen? Are you rooting for Rhaenyra's mercurial husband Daemon Targaryen, or do you back Aegon's calculating mother Alicent Hightower? The clash starts just in just a couple months, and HBO is keeping the "Black vs. Green" theme going where the cast members say why their side should win:
Let's divide these up like HBO wants us to, by Team Black and Team Green.
Team Black
- Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon): "Team Black are the rightful heirs. They were named by the king. They're just better looking, generally."
- Eve Best (Rhaenys Targaryen): "They're the best, and the annoying people are pretty obviously the Greens. They're all just a bunch of knobs and they need their heads being knocked together."
- Harry Collett (Jacaerys Velaryon): "Team Black are decent people. We are more of a functioning family. We do things the right way."
- Phoebe Campbell (Rhaena Targaryen): "I think we love each other way more."
- Bethany Antonia (Baela Targaryen): "Team Black are the most fun. We get on the most. They all hate each other."
- Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen): "Me and Rhaenyra, there's a bloodline to us, isn't there? We're the thoroughbreds."
- Emma D'Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen): "We have madness on our side. And we have a powerful navel presence thanks to the Velaryon fleet."
Those are some fighting words from the members of Team Black. Team Green, what do you have to say for yourself?
Team Green
- Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon II Targaryen): "My name is on the lease for the castle."
- Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower): "We have bigger dragons."
- Fabien Frankel (Ser Criston Cole): "I think it's more a loyalty thing for Cole. I think it's his loyalty to Alicent. He wants what she wants."
- Ewan Mitchell: "Aemond, he was bullied and wronged as a kid. He bounced back, he put a saphhire gemstone in his eye. And yeah, they're gonna get what's coming to him."
Matt Smith's response to Ewan Mitchell's tough talk is priceless: "No chance, I'm coming for his head. I'm gonna put it on a spike."
Team Black definitely had more of a presence in this video, whereas Team Green was missing members like Rhys Ifans (Otto Hightower) and Phia Saban (Helaena Targaryen). Either way, the battle lines are drawn! Tune in to see who gets the better of whom when the second season of House of the Dragon premieres on HBO and Max on Sunday, June 16.
