House of the Dragon wins its first Emmy, for costume design

It remains a travesty that none of the actors on House of the Dragon were nominated for Emmy awards, but at least costume designer Jany Temime and her team walked away with a well-deserved win.

This past weekend, the behind-the-scenes stars of our favorite TV shows gathered for the Creative Arts Emmys, which is an award ceremony that most rewards the contributions of the designers, technicians, editors and other professionals who make the TV world go round; the awards for stuff like "Best Actor" and "Best Drama" will be handed out during a different, televised ceremony next week.

HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon was nominated for a bevy of Creative Arts Emmys in areas like production design, cinematography, and makeup. But it only won a single award: for Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes. Here's how the field looked:

Outstanding Fantasy Costumes

  • Hocus Pocus 2, Disney+: Salvador Perez, Costume Designer; Elizabeth Shelton, Assistant Costume Designer; Gala Autumn, Costume Supervisor
  • House Of The Dragon, HBO: Jany Temime, Costume Designer; Katherine Burchill, Paul Yeowell, Rachel George, Assistant Costume Designer; Joanna Lynch, Costume Supervisor
  • The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power, Amazon Prime Video: Kate Hawley, Costume Designer; Libby Dempster, Assistant Costume Designer; Lucy McLay, Assistant Costume Designer; Jaindra Watson, Assistant Costume Designer; Pip Lingard, Costume Supervisor; Jenny Rushton, Costume Supervisor
  • The Mandalorian, Disney+: Shawna Trpcic, Costume Designer; Elissa Alcala, Assistant Costume Designer; Julie Robar, Costume Supervisor; Julie Yang Silver, Costume Supervisor
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi, Disney+: Suttirat Anne Larlarb, Costume Designer; Stacia Lang, Assistant Costume Designer; Lynda Foote, Costume Supervisor
  • What We Do In The Shadows, FX: Laura Montgomery, Costume Designer; Barbara Cardoso, Assistant Costume Designer; Judy Laukkanen, Costume Supervisor

Costume designer Jany Temime and her team walked away with a well-deserved win in this category. That's Temime on the left in the picture below:

I would have liked House of the Dragon to pick up a few more awards, especially since it's not nominated for many at the proper Emmys ceremony, which will air on Fox on Monday, January 15. At that ceremony, the only award that House of the Dragon is up for is Best Drama. Somehow none of the actors were nominated, which is a travesty on par with the Hindenburg disaster. No, you're being dramatic.

Anyway, congratulations to Temime, her team, and all the winners at the Creative Arts Emmys.
