New episode of True Detective: Night Country will stream early this week

The fourth season of True Detective, subtitled Night Country this time around, is almost over! Unlike the past three seasons, which had three episodes apiece, Night Country only has six. The fifth episode, simply titled "Part 5," is up next.

And it's up sooner than usual. Usually, new episodes of True Detective: Night Country drop on Max and air on HBO proper at the same time: 9:00 p.m. EST. But this Sunday, the Super Browl is airing in living rooms everywhere, and HBO is loathe to compete with the matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs, not to mention Taylor Swift, who's periodic appearances in the box seats up above seem to have taken over football coverage these past couple of months. With that in mind, the fifth episode of True Detective: Night Country will be available to stream on Max early, at 9:00 p.m. CST on Friday, February 9.

This comes from TV Line, which tells us that the episode will air on HBO proper like normal on Sunday night; it'll just be available to stream on Max a couple days early. The Night Country finale will air the week after like normal: on Sunday, February 18 on both Max and HBO.

This season of True Detective marks a departure for the show. Original creator Nic Pizzolatto has handed the reins to Issa López (and apparently doesn't always approve of the job she's doing). Personally, I've been enjoying the new, more openly supernatural take on the show, and am loving the performances from the ensemble cast, which includes Jodie Foster, Kali Reis and many more.
