Westworld star Thandiwe Newton joins the cast of Wednesday season 2
By Dan Selcke
Wednesday, Netflix's Addams Family spinoff show, continues to add top-tier talent to its roster. The other week, we learned that Steve Buscemi will be coming on board as the new principal of Nevermore Academy, the ooky-spooky boarding school where young Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) attends classes and solves murders. Now, Variety reports that Thandiwe Newton — who memorably played the sly host Maeve in Westworld — will also appear in season 2, although we don't know who she might play.
Wednesday already sports an impressive cast. Catherine Zeta-Jones plays Wednesday's mother Morticia, Luis Guzmán her father Gomez, and Fred Armisen her Uncle Fester. The first season featured Christina Ricci and Gwendoline Christie in prominent roles. The show is a pretty lightweight horror comedy, but it's attracted some big names; Buscemi and Newton should fit right in.
And of course there's Ortega, who's become a star on the back of this show. Between Wednesday, her role in the Scream movies, and her starring role in Tim Burton's upcoming Beetlejuice reboot, she is officially American's new spooky it girl.
If I had to guess, I'd say that Newton will play some new teacher at Nevermore Academy, which has a high mortality rate for staff and faculty alike. That should provide plenty of opportunity for new stars to enter and exit the series should it go on for a while.
We don't know exactly when the second season of Wednesday will come out, but with filming just getting started up, smart money is on sometime in 2025.
