After dominating box offices worldwide and winning the hearts of millions, Project Hail Mary is finally making its way to home screens. The Ryan Gosling-led sci-fi epic, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, arrives on digital platforms on PVOD this Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

Forbes has reported the release date, citing When To Stream. The film is already available for purchase and rental on Prime Video in the UK, signaling the global rollout is underway. Fans can finally experience the emotional journey of Ryland Grace and his alien companion Rocky from the comfort of their homes.

Since its theatrical release on March 20, 2026, Project Hail Mary has been nothing short of a cultural phenomenon. The film has grossed over $655 million worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing film of 2026. It earned $323 million in the US and Canada with another $321 million from international markets cementing its status as one of the year's biggest hits.

The film's success prompted Amazon MGM Studios to break its standard 45-day theatrical window, extending the exclusive theatrical run to capitalize on its ongoing popularity. Director Christopher Miller had emphasized that this was a movie that needed to be experienced on the big screen, especially during its one-week return to IMAX theaters.

Pause and rewind your favorite frames from the movie

As mentioned, the film arrives on digital platforms via premium video on demand this Tuesday, May 12, 2026. US platforms to watch including Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video and Google Play are expected to follow suit.

For dedicated fans like myself, who have watched the film multiple times (a guilty five times for my own account) in theaters, the upcoming digital release is both exciting and bittersweet. Each theatrical viewing revealed new details to the story of Ryland Grace's desperate mission to save Earth from extinction and his unexpected friendship with Rocky, who steals every scene.

While nothing can truly replicate the theatrical experience of seeing the Hail Mary spacecraft glide across a massive IMAX screen, the digital release has its own advantages. Viewers can pause and rewind to catch the clever scientific explanations, and most importantly, introduce the film to friends and family who missed its theatrical run.

The movie works equally well on multiple viewings as the mystery of Grace's mission is depicted through flashbacks that reward careful attention. Rocky's unique form of communication through musical notes becomes even more endearing on repeated watches and the emotional climax hits just as hard whether you're seeing it for the first or sixth time.

Soon, we can all jazz hands our way through this incredible adventure from wherever we call home.
