Rebecca Yarros has been teasing something Fourth Wing-related for nearly two weeks ahead of Conscription Day on Wednesday, July 15. Now, it's official that something is on the way!
The author of The Empyrean series posted a very cryptic message on her Facebook page that reads "Public Notice 634.23. Conscription rates are hereby doubled for each province until further notice."
The post includes the caption, "Hope your sunrise is extra beautiful tomorrow morning, cadets!"
Now, Yarros doesn't say that there's something Empyrean-related dropping bright and early in the morning on Conscription Day, which is July 15, but that's exactly what is happening.
Since July 3, which is Violet Sorrengail's birthday, Yarros has been dropping hints that something was coming on July 15.
Fans think Yarros is sharing Fourth Wing "Not Book 4" news on Conscription Day
There have been so many fan theories about what Yarros could be announcing on July 15. Fans have been speculating that we're going to learn the cast of the TV series. Other fans have been thinking it could be something related to the fourth book of The Empyrean series.
While it could be one of those things, it's more likely that it's related to the Not Book 4 project that Yarros announced this spring. The project will be released on Sept. 29, 2026, and it's currently available to pre-order. But, again, we have no idea what this project is, what it's about, or its title.
Prior to this Facebook announcement, Yarros also teased a fourth book that's part of The Empyrean series, but we know it's not the real fourth book. Literally, there's a picture of four books, pages out, but that's interesting because we've only seen three books in the series so far: Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, and Onyx Storm.
So far, we don't know much about this book, but rumor has it the book is shorter, about the length of a novella, and it's not set after the events of Onyx Storm. So, most likely, it's going to explore something deeper or tell a part of this story that we don't know all the details about so far.
There are so many theories about what Not Book 4 could be about, from parts of Violet's story in Iron Flame when she was being tortured to the 12 hours that are missing in Onyx Storm and much more.
Honestly, I have no idea! I've read all three books, of course, and the one thing that I don't like to do very often is try to predict what Yarros is going to do next. She's a master of epic twists, and so I'm imagining that what we're about to find out is probably not what everyone is expecting it to be.
If I were to take a guess, I would bet that it's something related to Not Book 4 because it's probably a little early to learn any big news about the TV series when we just learned that it's officially in the works in May.
The fourth book is obviously a massive thing, but Yarros also confirmed earlier this year that she's just getting started on the project and that it probably won't be released until 2027 at the earliest. We're going to be waiting quite a while for the real fourth book in the series.
So, there are these bigger projects coming in the future that fans are obviously interested in, but there's also this other project that's coming a lot sooner that's basically an unknown at this point. It makes so much more sense to give fans an update on this project that is getting released in just a few months.
