Picking up right where the premiere episode left off, Benoit and Nemo wrack their brains for a way to stop the Nautilus from sinking. At first, they reject Humility’s suggestions as air grows thin. When they do finally try her idea, it fails. Then, a leak is found and she whips out a solution to seal it.

With Humility’s help, the crew of the Nautilus is able to bring the ship to the surface before the water pressure implodes it. Humility reveals herself to be an engineer and scientist. As the Nautilus surfaces, the crew spot an island nearby.

To communicate between decks, crew members can speak into a cone attached to a host that runs through the ship. I liked that aspect; it's very much in keeping with what futurists like Jules Verne would have thought was futuristic when he was writing 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in the 19th century.

Humility’s fiancé Lord Pitt (Cameron Cuff) is aboard the Dreamnought that is attacking the ship. He complains about the small quarters, which are in stark contrast the opulent ones of the Nautilus. He’s there to rescue Humility, whom the Nautilus took on board in the premiere.

After the women, Blaster, and a couple of the men on the Nautilus unsuccessfully attempt to escape, Nemo realizes he needs to give them reasons to remain as a crew. Meanwhile, they're having trouble powering up the ship again. It turns out there’s been some sabotage. Once that’s resolved, they are able to narrowly avoid being boarded. Nemo tells the crew they need to work together to make it to the open sea quickly. They do indeed band together, but are dejected.

Recap: Nautilus Epsiode 2, "Tick Tick Boom"

Back on the Dreadnought, Youngblood recieves word, likely via telegraph, about the latest whereabouts of the Nautilus. Crawley orders the Dreadnought to pursue at full speed, despite warnings about pushing her too hard. One of the men recognizes who Nemo really is.

The crew on the Nautilus complain about only having biscuits and rice to eat. Plus someone is stealing biscuits. I wonder why they don’t fish when they’re on a boat. That would be the first thing I'd do.

This episode gives us information on how the engines and torpedo shafts work. Unfortunately they haven’t found explosives to load into the tubes. This shows us the ship was built with some war capability already. That makes me wonder what Crawley wanted to add.

Humility gets lessons on humility from her encounters with Nemo and Benoit. Conversations over food enlighten her on the evils of the company. Meanwhile, Archie the dog reveals a stowaway.

The crew of the Nautilus encounter the whales again, only they are being hunted by whalers. The crew convinces Nemo to confront the whalers and free the mother whale leading her baby away. He realizes that’s what his wife tried to do when she was killed. He leaps off the ship and makes a daring whale rescue.

Still, the calf is captured. Nemo confronts the whalers and demands they release it. When they refuse, he trades Humility’s bracelet for the release of the calf.

The Dreadnought catches up to them but the Nautilus submerges to escape. However, Youngblood orders explosive barrels launched into the water. With each barrage, Nemo takes his ship deeper. When they hit bottom, the next explosives fall short. Then we learn they’ve woken something very large...
