Episode 6 of Nautilus, "The Big Blue," is a bit of an escapade with a lot of action and investigation. Relationships aboard the Nautilus are becoming more complicated, particularly between Nemo and Humility. Plus, one can't go wrong in July with big sharks, right?
Now that the Nautilus is moving away from the ring of fire, things cool off enough for the crew to snap out of their fugue. Once they realize Humility isn’t with them, they turn the ship around to find her before she runs out of air.
We see another new invention from Benoit: a defibrillator. A fun fact is that the defibrillator was invented in 1899, 42 years after the events of Nautilus. I like that Nemo acknowledges that Humility saved them all. He does have an occasional humble moment.
The dreadnought continues pursuing the Nautilus. Even though they’ve lost the sound signal, Crawley believes they are still close. He lets on that there’s something special about the area of the ocean where they are (above the ring of fire).
Crawley confronts Millais about his failure to kill Jagadish. Jagadish bends under threats of the company going after his family and tells Millais about Nemo’s plans to find the Viking treasure. This time, he is executed.
Nautilus Episode 6 review, "The Big Blue"
When the crew of the Nautilus share a meal, Humility talk about some architecture she saw when free floating. Benoit believes it maybe the famed lost city of Atlantis, and shows Nemo the map he found in the White Rajah’s library to back up his claim. Neither Benoit nor Humility can convince Nemo to investigate, at first. However, Benoit pleads his case until Nemo relents and allows a single day excursion.
Nemo, Benoit, Humility, Cuff, and Jiacomo (Andrew Shaw) suit up and leave the Nautilus to visit the rock formations. Many of the stones look like tiles and steps. They are so enraptured with the ruins they don’t realize there are giant sharks swimming about. Obviously, they'll become a problem later.
The crew eventually find a way in through a pool in the floor of the ruins above. The only way to determine if the air’s good is to remove their helmets. Humility looks around and muses about how much power was needed to build the place, whereupon Cuff wonders how much more power it took to destroy it.
While observing fossils, Humility and Cuff discuss his backstory, and we find out how he came to enlist with the company. He then gets attacked by a "living fossil." Humility cuts her suit and hand trying to get it off of him. One biting starfish becomes thousands, and they flee.
Benoit discovers a glowing stone and takes it with him when Nemo pulls him away. The creatures drag him down before he can get his helmet on. He manages to pass the stone to Nemo before he’s completely overwhelmed. Nemo takes it and jumps into the pool exit, knocking his air hose loose.

In the water, Humility’s bleeding hand draws the sharks. Jiacomo gets to test out the stun gun on one, turning it away. I expected them to be a larger threat and not so easily dissuaded when there’s the scent of blood nearby.
They crew manage to get Nemo to the Nautilus, where he informs them of the loss of Benoit. Everyone mourns, their hopes low.
Crawley is summoned to London to appear before royalty, so he leaves the dreadnought amidst a storm. The remaining officers predict Nemo will take a route through the Antarctic and rush to get there first.
The episode concludes with Nemo listening to a recording of Benoit and taking in his words of wisdom.
I’m looking forward to an icy encounter between the Nautilus and the dreadnought. I no longer believe Millais might betray the company for Nemo. There’s certainly more to his past with Nemo to uncover.
