Release date for Invincible season 3 revealed, and it's soon!
By Dan Selcke
UPDATE: Pretty soon after news of this leak broke, Amazon Prime video released the teaser for Invincible season 3 in question, and everything was on point: new episodes start airing on Thursday, February 6, and there will be no mid-season break.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE: The first couple seasons of Invincible, Amazon Prime Video's adaptation of Robert Kirkman's superhero comic book series, have been great: earnest and subversive, hyper-violent and densely layered, they've quickly earned a passionate fan following.
The problem has been the wait times. Over two years passed between the end of season 1 and the airing of season 2, and then we only got four episodes of season 2 before the show went on hiatus for another three+ months before we got to see the other four. Kirkman has gone on record as saying that the long waits have "sucked"; since the second and third seasons were made back to back, the hope has been that fans wouldn't be waiting as long this time.
And it looks like those hopes will be fulfilled! Although it's been scrubbed from the internet, a leaked trailer for the next season was going around recently, and it featured two bits of good news. Beware SPOILERS below!
Okay, the good news is: 1) The third season of Invincible will air on February 6, 2025, meaning fans will only have been waiting around 10 months between the end of season 2 and the beginning of season 3, and; 2) there will be no mid-season break, which we're told on a title card.
We need to give a disclaimer that this information is leaked, which means and it's neither 100% reliable nor especially ethical; I'm sorry Amazon couldn't deliver the good news itself on its own terms, but I think the good outweighs the bad here. Also, the idea of a February release date lines up with what cast and crew members have said; Ross Marquand, who voices Rudy and the Immortal, predicted an early 2025 release date back in June. February 6, 2025 qualifies.
The challenge to get new seasons of marquee shows out in a timely manner is one of the most urgent challenges in the industry. It's pretty much become de riguer to have to wait two years or more for new seasons of shows like House of the Dragon, The Rings of Power, Stranger Things and The Boys, and the more time passes the higher the risk that fans will lose interest. Whether or not the February 6 date is accurate, Kirkman has made clear that he wants new episodes of Invincible to come out much closer together, which is a worthy and necessary goal.
