Amazon cancelled The Wheel of Time, based on the beloved book series by Robert Jordan, a few weeks back, and we're grieving in waves. The Wheel of Time was the best high fantasy series on the air, and to see it cut down in the middle of the story after what was easily its best season yet was painful.
A new wave of grief washed in the other day when star Rosamund Pike, who plays the Aes Sedai sorceress Moiraine, posted about the show for the first time since news of the cancellation. On her Instagram Stories, she reposted a picture of herself decked out as Moiraine, an image originally shared by The Wheel of Time costume designer Sharon Gilham. The text reads: "Maybe I felt the end was coming and wanted to channel in anguish and rage at the sky."

I think "anguish and rage" nicely expresses what a lot of fans have been feeling these past few weeks.
Pike is the latest in a long line of cast and crew members to express their feelings about about the show getting cancelled, although she is certainly one of the most prominent. My personal favorite post remains this image, shared by Priyanka Bose (Alanna), depicting Moiraine getting strangled by the Forsaken sorceress Lanfear (Natasha O'Keeffe), only over Moiraine's face there's a blue dot that says "Prime Video." You get the idea:

Pike was more than just an actor of The Wheel of Time; she was a producer and one of the show's biggest champions, so I'm sure the cancellation stings especially sharp for her. Fans have been mounting a Herculean effort to either convince Amazon to change their minds or to find the show a new home; an online petition has garnered well over 100k signatures, there's a billboard in Times Square, and there are other events planned. We've heard that the show isn't being shopped around to other networks, but heaven knows it should be! Executives: if you're in New York City, look up.
Cast and crew members have alternated between despair and hope. Showrunner Rafe Judkins gave fans a bit of both with his official statement last week: "Will The Wheel of Time get to do that with another network and finish the story? Sadly, it's not something that happens often. But it does happen," he wrote in part. "So, who knows, perhaps The Wheel of Time show will do what the books have always managed to do since day one — defy the traditional definitions of 'beginnings' and 'ends'. I certainly hope it does — because this book series and these fans deserve to see the story finished."
Whatever happens, the fan effort has been downright inspiring, and I think it's worth something whether or not the show actually gets revived. But also, I'd really love to see the show revived. If this show dies, I can't imagine anyone being willing to take a stab at adapting The Wheel of Time books to the screen for many years. So c'mon, Apple or whoever, make everyone happy.
