Silo season 2 episode release schedule
By Daniel Roman
This week, the hit science fiction series Silo returns on Apple TV+. Based on the book series by Hugh Howey, Silo tells the story of the last 10,000 people alive on a desolate future Earth, who live in a massive underground bunker; the titular Silo.
But are they really the last people? That question looms large as Silo kicks off its second season. The first season ended with sheriff Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) leaving the Silo to see what lies above ground. Thanks to improvements in her environment suit, she's actually able to leave her old home behind. But what she finds on the surface isn't what she expects. Although the powers that be in the Silo told a lot of lies, it turns out the surface actually is a hellscape that can't support human life.
The first season ended with a wide shot that revealed the existence of other Silos. As for what — or who — is in them, we'll have to tune in and find out. (Or read the books.) If your'e as excited for Silo season 2 as we are, you probably want to know when all the episodes air. Fortunately for you, we have the answer!
How many episodes is Silo season 2? And when do they release?
Silo season 2 will consist of 10 episodes, with the first premiering on Friday, November 15. Episodes will follow one per week after that, until the season finale on January 17, 2025. Here's the full release schedule:
- Episode 201, "The Engineer": Friday, November 15
- Episode 202, "Order": November 22
- Episode 203: November 29
- Episode 204: December 6
- Episode 205: December 13
- Episode 206: December 20
- Episode 207: December 27
- Episode 208: January 3
- Episode 209: January 10
- Episode 210: January 17
With many streamers trying hybrid release models where multiple episodes drop at once, it's actually refreshing to see a series like Silo stretch things out. We'll be watching new episodes all the way until mid-January, which is right around the time Apple TV+'s other big sci-fi show, Severance, will start airing.
What book is Silo season 2 based on?
If you've been enjoying Silo, you might also be curious about the book series by Hugh Howey, which is also titled Silo. Believe it or not, the first season of Silo only covered roughly half of Howey's first book, Wool. Season 2 will cover the rest of the book, likely expanding on events as it dramatizes them for the screen.
The second book in the series, Shift, reveals the origins of the Silo program. Then the third book, Dust, jumps back to current events with characters like Juliette to show how everything resolves. It's not clear yet how the TV show will weave events together, but I imagine we'll have a better idea by the end of season 2.
How many seasons will Silo run for on Apple TV+?
Another piece to this puzzle is that star Rebecca Ferguson recently told Collider that she expects Silo will end after its fourth season. That would mean that Shift and Dust would be covered in their entirety over the course of those two seasons, which Ferguson thinks might be filmed back to back.
"I believe that the show has an ending, and I know when that is," she said. "So that's the answer. You will find out when the show is done. To be honest, I don't think it's a secret. The books are the books. It's three books, and the three books are divided into four seasons. So I believe, unless any Apple person is gonna jump on, I think we're absolutely fine with saying Season 1, we've done. Season 2 is shot and coming out, and we're now looking at green-lighting Seasons 3 and 4. And I think we would film them maybe together, and that would be the end."
Ferguson also mentioned that she really doesn't want fans to have to wait too long between seasons. So far, Silo has been one of the rare genre shows that didn't take two years between seasons. Its first premiered in May 2023 and its second is coming a year-and-a-half later in November 2024 — and thats' with the Hollywood writers and actors strikes thrown into the mix. There's plenty of reason to be optimistic that Silo could keep up the pace. According to Ferguson, the team's commitment to avoid long wait times is behind the idea of a back-to-back filming schedule for seasons 3 and 4:
"I think that is the plan, and I believe that because the request of it is so demanding, which is amazing, the point would be to give the people what they want to get so we don't have too much of a gap. But everything changes. It's about timing. It's about what works. What else is coming out. It's a mathematical equation of how things are being dropped, and when it's being dropped."
