Sophie Turner is getting advice from another Lara Croft for her role in the Tomb Raider series!
One of the more highly anticipated shows of 2027 is Tomb Raider. Emmy Award-winning writer/producer/actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge is adapting the smash-hit video game franchise for Prime Video as a new TV series, bringing the excitement that’s thrilled video game fans for three decades to the small screen.
Cast as the pistol-packing archaeologist Lara Croft is Sophie Turner of Game of Thrones fame. She follows a line of top actresses who have played the character, including both Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander in the movies, as well as Haley Atwell, who voiced the character in the Netflix animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.
One of the most recent actresses to portray Lara Croft in the video games is Camilla Luddington, and she offered a bit of advice for Turner in a recent interview. Best known for her role as Jo on Grey’s Anatomy, Luddington voiced Lara in 2013’s Tomb Raider game reboot, which focused on a younger Lara shipwrecked on an island for her first major adventure.
The video game was a huge success that revitalized the franchise. Luddington not only voiced Lara but also performed motion capture for the game, including its infamous (and often gory) death scenes. Speaking to People Magazine, Luddington offered unique advice to Turner.
“Heating pads," she responded when asked what advice she'd give the new Lara Croft actress. "I did a lot of crazy stuff when I was filming [the video games]."
"I just remember being so sore the next day," she recalled. "I'm sure she has a lot of heating pads already all over her. That would be... Yes, yes. Hot baths and heating pads.”
Luddington would perform as Lara for two more games to close out the "Survivor Trilogy," Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015) and Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018). Her advice may be warranted as Turner was injured filming the television series, forcing production to be postponed for while she recovered. The delay seems to have been minor, however, since the series is still aiming for an early 2027 release.

Luddington was asked by People if there’s a chance she might appear in the new series, and she made it clear she’d love to take part.
“Oh, my God, that would be so fun. They have not approached me. Sophie looks great. I’ve seen the pictures. Very exciting," Luddington said. "Yes, I would love [to guest star] ... I would love to be like a baddie. That’d be fun to be a villain, right? Yeah, I would love that. Thanks for throwing that out to the universe for me.”
It would be intriguing to have Luddington show up in the series to face Lara. Maybe she could be a “dark mirror,” an adventurer who turned to crime and a reminder to Lara of how she could lose her own morals in her quest for fame and glory. It'd also be fun to see Luddington show off a different side of her talents as a villain.
We’ll have to see if that comes true, but at least it shows that a past Lara Croft is more than ready to see how the new one reacts to the world of Tomb Raider!
Tomb Raider is currently filming. It's expected to debut on Prime Video in 2027.
