STARZ is shaking things up for the final episode of Outlander, but fear not; this isn’t a bad change for the show. In fact, it’s the opposite!
Outlander season 8, episode 10, “And the World Was All Around Us," will bring an end to STARZ’s beloved romantasy series and STARZ is extending the runtime for the episode to close out the season. Rather than an episode that comes in under an hour in length, the Outlander series finale will be an hour and 20 minutes long, which makes it the longest episode of the season and one of the longest episodes in the history of the show.
Over the years, Outlander has never stuck to a standard episode length, but most episodes have historically come in the 50-minute range, but only two episodes have come in at 80 minutes or longer. At 80 minutes, the Outlander series finale episode is the second longest episode in the show’s run, tying the season 6 premiere, which also came in at 80 minutes. The only episode to come in longer than 80 minutes was the season 2 finale, which clocked in at 88 minutes, making it just two minutes shy of the hour-and-a-half mark.
If ever there was an episode that deserved to be longer than the usual Outlander episode, it’s certainly the series finale. We’re glad that STARZ gave the show an extended episode to close out the series, though we imagine the 80-minute episode will fly by in the blink of an eye. The series finale will see Claire and Jamie protecting the home they’ve made for themselves and the trust in the love that binds them together
