Despite only joining the cast of The Witcher for its fourth season, Danny Woodburn made a big impression as Zoltan Chivay, a grizzled dwarven soldier and a good friend of Geralt of Rivia. He was one of a number of big cast additions for The Witcher season 4, which included Laurence Fishburne as Regis, and most notably Liam Hemsworth as Geralt. All three of them will reprise their roles for the fifth and final season later this year.
After filming back-to-back with season 4, The Witcher 5 officially wrapped filming in October 2025. It has been in post-production since, with release confirmed for later this year. While filming wrapped a while back, some cast members naturally had to go back for reshoots or ADR. One of them, presumably, is Woodburn. Posting on Instagram, the actor shared a sentimental announcement that his journey as Zoltan is over. "Said so long to Zoltan today in what was my final performance of this character," he wrote.
Woodburn added: "He taught me a great deal about love and loyalty. He had a beautiful soul and I will miss him."
After being announced in the role by Netflix in 2024, Woodburn's journey as Zoltan has spanned almost three years. "This nearly three year journey has been one of the great experiences of my career and I am grateful to the producers, writers, cast and crew who went into the woods on this adventure with him," he concluded.
What can we expect from Zoltan in The Witcher season 5?
Zoltan Chivay is expected to continue as a key character in the fifth and final season of The Witcher. He's a steadfast and loyal companion of Geralt, and will remain by his side as they traverse the war-torn Continent. Also in Geralt's loyal party — or hansa — are Milva (Meng'er Zhang), Regis (Laurence Fishburne), Jaskier (Joey Batey), and Cahir (Eamon Farren).
Danny Woodburn returns to epic fantasy in God of War
After wrapping up his role in The Witcher, Woodburn is making an instant return to the fantasy genre in Prime Video's upcoming adaptation of God of War. He will star as a series regular alongside Jeff Gulka. Together, they play brothers Brok and Sindri.
Woodburn will play Brok, a stubborn and brash legendary dwarven blacksmith who is ostricized by his community after helping build a super-weapon. The character is inspired by Brokk of Norse Mythology, who crafted Thor’s hammer, Mjölnir, with the help of his brother Eitri.
God of War is still in early development at Prime Video. It's expected to release on Prime Video either late 2027 or early 2028. As for The Witcher season 5, we'll be on the lookout for a release date as we get further into 2026.
