Many mysteries revolve around Wednesday, which makes sense given that The Addams Family are a kooky clan. Season 2 left a couple of cliffhangers open to resolve, as Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) was heading off to find her best friend, Enid (Emma Myers) who’d been trapped in her werewolf form.
There was also the longstanding mystery of Ophelia Frump, the sister of Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones). She’s never shown up before, but that will change thanks to some major casting news that dropped today.
Netflix announced that French actress Eva Green will step into the role of Ophelia for Wednesday season 3. The actress is known for her sultry roles in Casino Royale, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, 2024’s two-part adaptation of The Three Musketeers, Dark Shadows, and the gothic horror series Penny Dreadful, among many other films and TV shows.
Speaking to Tudum, showrunners Al Gough and Miles teller boasted of how important casting Green in this part was. “Eva Green has always brought an exhilarating, singular presence to the screen — elegant, haunting, and beautifully unpredictable. Those qualities make her the perfect choice for Aunt Ophelia. We’re excited to see how she transforms the role and expands Wednesday’s world.”
Green herself added, “I’m thrilled to join the woefully twisted world of Wednesday as Aunt Ophelia. This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world, I can’t wait to bring my own touch of cuckoo-ness to the Addams family.”
It’s a great choice for the part; expect Green to play a major role in season 3!

What’s coming with Aunt Ophelia in WEdnesday?
While mentioned several times, Aunt Ophelia didn’t really come into prominence until late in season 2. Like Wednesday, Ophelia has psychic powers as a Raven — only in her case, it became worse as she aged. Morticia stated her sister went missing after losing control, which she feared would happen to Wednesday.
The final scenes of season 2 saw Wednesday receiving a vision of Ophelia locked away in a dungeon-like room in the mansion of Grandmama Hester (Joanna Lumley), writing “Wednesday must die” on a wall. That obviously leads to questions on how she'll factor into season 3.
“Ophelia has been gone a long time,” Millar told Tudum about the Season 2 cliffhanger. “It’s left a hole in Morticia’s life and a lot of unanswered questions. The reemergence of Ophelia is going to hit this family like a bomb.”
“It was always the plan to give viewers a glimpse of her at the end of the season in a way that they weren’t expecting, and then that’s a driver into Season 3," Gough added.
Green is really the perfect actress for this show. She has experience with horror-themed movies and shows, and seeing her as the wild Ophelia should be a blast. With her addition, Wednesday season 3 is going to be even better!
The first two seasons of Wednesday are streaming now on Netflix.
