A lot unfolded in the previous episode. Wednesday uncovered the identity of her stalker, lost both her psychic abilities and Goody’s spellbook, and Slurp managed to break out of the Hummers Shed. In episode 3, the students and staff of Nevermore Academy are headed on their first camping trip of the semester. Continue reading for a full recap of what all goes down in the third episode of the season titled "Call of the Woe."
Spoilers are ahead from Wednesday season 2 episode 3.
Wednesday attempts to retrieve Goody's book from Morticia
The third episode opens with Morticia and Gomez dancing in their home, while Wednesday secretly rummages through their room upstairs in search of Goody's book. Sensing something is wrong, Morticia heads upstairs and catches Wednesday red-handed. Wednesday tries to plead her case by explaining her vision of Enid and its potential connection to the crows, but this doesn't move Morticia enough to want to hand over the book.
As they continue to argue, Morticia shares more about her sister with Wednesday. She tells Wednesday that just like her, Ophelia was impatient and strong-willed. She was so obsessed with mastering her psychic ability that she drove herself to madness. Morticia tells Wednesday that she refuses to fail her like her mother failed her sister. Sensing that Morticia isn't going to give up the book no matter how much she begs, Wednesday decides to leave the room and return to her dorm.
Slurp returns to the Hummers Shed
After eating the driver's ed teacher's brain in the previous episode, Slurp voluntarily returns to the Hummers Shed the next morning. This surprises both Pugsley and Eugene, who have no idea what he did the night before. However, there's something different about Slurp now. Pugsley points out to Eugene that Slurp seems to be healing. He's regrowing a brain at a fast pace.
Pugsley tells Eugene that he thinks it's the mystery meat they've been feeding him, but we know as viewers that it has something to do with the human brain he consumed. After Slurp tries to bite Eugene, Eugene tells Pugsley that they need to tell somebody about him because he's dangerous. But Pugsley refuses because he knows Slurp will just get taken away. Eugene then asks Pugsley where Slurp is going to be when they're gone on the camping trip, and Pugsley replies that he's got it handled.
Bianca hides her mom at a local inn
Using her siren song, Bianca persuades the receptionist at a local inn to hand over a key to a room. She also makes sure that the receptionist doesn't remember her or their conversation. Later, she quietly enters the room to drop off supplies for her mother, Gabrielle. As you may remember from season 1, Gabrielle was involved in a cult called "Morning Song," led by her husband, Gideon. In season 2, it’s revealed that the FBI raided the Morning Song compound. Fortunately, Bianca got her mom out just in time. Now, Gabrielle is forced to stay hidden until the authorities can track down and arrest Gideon.
Wednesday joins the others on the school camping trip
Wednesday hadn’t intended to join the staff and other students on the Nevermore Academy camping trip, but everything changes after she accesses Galpin’s phone. There, she hears the voicemail Bradbury left for Galpin before his death and discovers that the evidence he was safeguarding is hidden in Galpin's cabin in Pine Crest. Pine Crest is close to Camp Jericho, the very location of the Nevermore camping trip. So, Wednesday decides to use the trip as a cover to investigate the cabin.
Everyone finally arrives at Camp Jericho. Wednesday discovers that her parents have volunteered as chaperones. Pugsley has secretly brought Slurp along on the trip. That can't be good! Eugene finds out later.
After gathering everyone together, Principal Dort gives a long speech about Outcast pride. However, he finds himself rudely interrupted when a cadet master and his cadets arrive and claim that they've already booked the area. This leads to a challenge between the Outcasts and the Cadets, aka the Normies. Whoever wins gets the campground, and whoever loses has to go home. The Outcasts end up winning the challenge, and Wednesday sets off on her own personal mission afterwards.
Wednesday arrives at Galpin's cabin and looks around. What she finds are multiple clippings of Outcast obituaries hanging on the wall. All of the outcasts were Willow Hill patients. She looks around more and sees the name "Lois" on the wall. Could this be the person targeting outcasts? Wednesday seems to think so. She attempts to trigger a vision by touching one of the obituaries, but nothing happens. Her psychic abilities still haven’t returned. Undeterred, she starts removing the clippings to take them with her.
Slurp finds his next victim
Although the cadet master and his cadets lost the challenge, he remained fixated on the defeat. Rather than returning home, he insists they stay and attempt to forcefully take back what they believe was unfairly taken from them. However, things take a turn when the cadet master accidentally stumbles into Pugsley’s tent and comes face to face with a free Slurp. Slurp immediately attacks and starts eating his brain. The other cadets start running away.
Slurp then exits the tent and grabs a nearby axe. He tries to attack Gomez in the shower, but Pugsley intervenes, shocking him with electricity before he can strike. Slurp then wanders into the forest, where he encounters Wednesday and Morticia.
Wednesday tries to win back Goody's book
After finding the Outcast obituaries, Wednesday shifts her focus to obtaining Goody’s book once again. But instead of asking for it back, she challenges her mom to a duelo-a-ciegas. Unfortunately for Wednesday, she loses the duel. But she does save her mom from Slurp attacking her with an axe and eating her brain.
The ambulance and police finally arrive at the campsite, and Pugsley watches in anguish as they take Slurp away. Meanwhile, Wednesday knows her next step is to return to Willow Hill to hopefully learn more about the Outcasts whose obituaries she found. She believes there's some sort of connection to her vision about Enid.
Marilyn Thornhill transfers to Willow Hill
The final scene of the episode shows a large truck arriving at Willow Hill, delivering a new transfer. As they walk down the hallway, Judi tells Dr. Fairburn that she has already assigned the transfer to a room. Dr. Fairburn replies that she wants extra security for this individual, as they are extremely dangerous. When they reach the room, the transfer is revealed to be Marilyn Thornhill. Dun dun duuun!
