We have some great news to report about the upcoming Highlander reboot. There's been a new addition to the cast, and some might recognize this person for their legendary career in WWE and their impressive athleticism. It's none other than Scottish-American professional wrestler Drew McIntyre!

McIntyre's casting comes just a couple of weeks after news broke that the movie's lead, Henry Cavill, suffered an injury during training, temporarily halting pre-production and delaying production to early next year. On Sept. 20, Cavill shared an update on his recovery and revealed his injury with a couple of photos on social media. As he rests up, we're wishing him a full and speedy recovery!

WWE's Drew McIntyre joins cast of Highlander reboot

According to Deadline, McIntyre has signed on to be a part of the upcoming Highlander movie, taking on the role of Angus MacLeod. Angus is the brother of Connor MacLeod, who is played by Cavill. In the original 1986 classic, the Angus character was portrayed by Game of Thrones actor James Cosmo. However, the Angus in the original film was Connor's cousin, not his brother. It's unknown why this new reboot has changed Angus’s relationship with Connor from cousin to brother, but we're looking forward to seeing how this new sibling relationship will shape the story.

McIntyre is best known for being a two-time WWE Champion and the 2020 Royal Rumble winner. However, he most recently starred in the action thriller flick The Killer's Game alongside retired WWE superstar Dave Bautista. In this film, he got to showcase his acting chops and prove he can handle high-octane action on the big screen. With this new role in the Highlander reboot, McIntyre is set to further solidify his transition from wrestling superstar to action movie star.

Bautista is also in the cast of this upcoming fantasy movie, so we'll get to see him and McIntyre reunite. He plays the role of the Kurgan. Additionally, the cast also includes Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, and Max Zhang.

Amazon MGM Studios is backing the Highlander movie, with Chad Stahelski directing from a script penned by Michael Finch. The original film starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, a Scottish warrior from the 16th century who discovers he is immortal. He's able to live forever unless beheaded.

Immortals battle across the centuries, with only one ultimately surviving to claim the ultimate prize. Connor must confront a ruthless enemy known as the Kurgan, and with guidance from his mentor Ramirez, he fights through time, culminating in a climactic showdown in modern-day New York.
