Live coverage of the 2012 SDCC Game of Thrones panel

It’s almost time. At 2:45 PM PT/5:45 PM ET, the panel for Game of Thrones will begin in Hall H at the San Diego Comic Con. Our live coverage of the panel will start 15 minutes prior. We have our Daily Raven host Simone Boyce on hand to provide live updates from the panel. We will also be pulling in relevant tweets and photos from others at the panel. Think of it as the ultimate live blog, your one stop shop for full coverage of the panel!

UPDATE: To repeat, the panel tonight consists of Emilia Clarke, Alfie Allen, Richard Madden, Rose Leslie and Michelle Fairley, moderated by George R.R. Martin and the executive producer Carolyn Strauss. There is no video stream being produced, but we expect a recording of the panel to be released afterwards, and we are of course going to make that available on our site. Stay tuned, and follow our liveblogging below.

In the mean time, head over to Entertainment Weekly as they will be chatting with the cast prior to the panel. You can watch the streaming video of their chat here.

I’m a little worried how they will handle those scenes. I think there’s a reason GRRM didn’t show them in the books. It’s going to be treading dangerously close to the “torture porn” of movies like Saw. But if done well, it could be very powerful stuff indeed.

It’s also going to make Theon’s line from the finale – “Do you know what it’s like to be told how lucky you are to be someone’s prisoner?” – all the more tragically ironic. If you only knew, Theon… Either way, very excited to hear this news, as I felt Allen gave the best performance of the season.

I missed the beginning of the EW cast panel interview. How much was there before the host asked Michelle about Catelyn’s decisions last season?

I have the rest captured if others want me to post it, although if I missed much I will wait until EW has the full interview available for replay.

Of course someone else may post it soon… wait and see I guess….

I’m not even sure I’m glad Alfie/Theon is back for this season, as it seems unecessary, and makes the show more complex than it needs to be, with the billion characters and storylines.

That said, I loved him in season 2, so I’m not exactly dreading to see more in s3.

    sjwenings,

You do realize GOT is a television series above all else and viewers require some sort of continuity?

He’ll probably be handled as Jaime was. Not a lot of him, but enough to let the audience know he’s still there. The experience of his reveal in the books can’t be recreated here.

The way GRRM wrote Theon’s capture, I thought he had died since it said something along the lines of “the last thing he ever saw.” The show doesn’t have the Reek/Ramsay build-up, so perhaps we’ve yet to see Theon’s first meeting with his captors.

    sjwenings,

Although SoS doesn’t have any Theon chapters, he is mentioned as being Ramsey’s prisoner a couple of times. So its the same as including extra Robb & Jaime scenes last season. Plus, there’s a lot of non-readers who were confused about what happened with Theon/WF at the end of last season, and I imagine they’d be rather pissed if that was just left unexplained for 1 or 2 seasons.

Thomas Sangster as Jojen literally makes me cry of happiness. Don’t laugh, but I loved Jojen in the books so for me, this is the equivalent of the news of Sean Bean being cast as Ned. :)) God, the last time I was so happy about something related to the show, it was when I found out who’ll be playing the Dragonstone ‘trio’.
I’m a bit sad about Mackenzie Crook, to be honest, I would have wanted him to get a slighlty bigger part, but I’m happy he’s in, nonetheless.

Paul Kaye as Thoros???!!!! Dennis Pennis?!! That is so left field! But I think they might just have pulled another Jerome Flynn.

WoW! Talk about overload, well we asked for casting news and we got it. Although the two BIG names are still a mystery. It is known that big names require seperate big announcements. Surprised with Crook’s role, but a good match, I guess an expansion of the character is in order. Kudos to whomever first guessed Emmanuel as Missandei, if her first episode is the sixth, then looks like Dany will be spending a couple of episodes in Qarth, were she will come across a certain someone while wandering the docks:)
“Et tu Brute” as Edmure, can’t wait, Toby is an outstanding Thespian and shoukd bring a fresh look to the character.

Did someone mention Dourif? He’d make a great Vargo actually, brilliant actor!

In terms of Crook, I suspect his Orell will be a few wildlings compressed into one, people like Varymyr etc

    Ross,

I always thought Crook was more a supporting actor and not going to be Mance… I never pictured him as Beric and when Westeros.com said he was not VArgo Hoat the first role I thought of was Orell the skinchanger if they made the part bigger. Maybe they will combine Orell and Varamyr Sixskins together?

I ADORE Brodie-Sangster as Jojen too!
He was my favorite to have the role if they aged it uup a bit. I just was not sure how much they would age it up…. He was great in Nowhere Boy, Doctor Who and Love Actually!

    Stannis for King,

Kristofer Hivju is really PERFECT for Thormund. I always read Thormund as older and thought they would cast older, but Hivju is will knock it out of the park I think!

According IMDB, Viggo is not presently filming anything.

    Quick, D&D, grab him!

    OmHaj,

    I aksed that myself!

In the one tweet I saw him say he would shave his head if the deal was finalized, but I never saw him say he would be Thoros. So I have hope he is Strong Belwas!!

I still wonder if he is even cast, will be cast or was in negoiations to be cast, but…. I hope Belwas makes it into Season 3!!

    ETA:
Asim Ahmad just tweeted that he could not take the role of Thoros due to scheduling conflicts and was forced to take a much smaller role.

Wow! What a lot to absorb! A woman is very pleased to see all the new cast and it looks like the existing cast is pretty psyched up too! Come on March!

That casting biut makes me VERY happy!

A woman thinks u r right, they will combine the roles as they did some of those in earlier episodes…that would make it more sensible for a movie actor to take on, and could be a very meaty role indeed!

had a great time at the panel (and waiting in line for ~4hrs early this morning)

i thought that GRRM was extremely awkward as the moderator this year, asking a lot of sex questions & especially the exchange with Alfie where he kept prodding about how he died as a prank put on him by D&D…

hopefully next year they get someone else to moderate the panel
