So I don’t know what’s considered a spoiler around here and what’s not, as evidenced by yesterday’s post. Bear with me.

But in my world, it’s a known known that certain, very high profile characters are completely left out of Book Four of A Song of Ice and Fire. It’s the main reason why next season is a weaving together of Books Four and Five. Because the characters who are left out are characters you can’t leave out.

On the other hand, if the show is now leaving out characters who appear in Book Four from Season 5? Well, I just don’t know what’s going on anymore.

I’m sure there are spoilers after the jump.

The article appears in the Italian site for Game of Thrones fans. Loosely, it translates to “The Throne of Swords.” They have an interview with Kristian Nairn (HODOR!) and Ellie Kendrick (Meera Reed), in which Nairn states that neither of them are in the upcoming season.

I’m….a little confused. How could they be leaving Meera Reed and Hodor out of next season? I could see them not having much to do, but left out?

The fact of the matter is none of Bran’s party have much to do once they reach this point in the books. Meera spends her time tending to her ailing brother Jojen. But since he was killed outright at the end of Season 4, I suppose that’s no longer necessary. Hodor mostly sits around and says Hodor a lot.

I assumed the show would find stuff for Hodor. Bran’s ability to warg into Hodor only happens once or twice in the books. (The entire attack at Craster’s Keep was added, so none of that “turning Hodor into a killing machine” was in the original story.) I assumed with the warged character I refer to as “Brandor” getting used in this way, the show would simply continue the trend for Season 5. This would give Hodor more to do. But maybe not?

We’ll have to see if this gets confirmed elsewhere. But for right now, keep your Hodoring handy.
