It is not very often that something is announced in regards to Doctor Who where the reaction involves degrees of confusion. However, that is exactly what happened yesterday, when the BBC aired an eight second trailer entitled ‘Doctor Who: Mission DALEK.’
The trailer itself does not give much information. At first, there is a line of text saying #MissionDalek. Then, the preview lets us know that, whatever this is, is coming soon. Finally, there is an image of a few Daleks, with two in the foreground and others trailing behind. The one on the right when looking at the screen moves a bit. That is all that we get.
So….what, exactly, is Mission DALEK? Is this a new spinoff, where the Daleks are the focus, and we see the universe from their murderous, xenophobic viewpoint? Is it some sort of prequel, where we get to look closer at how Davros created the Dalek race? Considering that Davros has been rumored to return this season, this could be the perfect time to take a closer look at the Daleks themselves, without the Doctor interfering in their plans.

It could also be that this trailer will announce another expansion to the Doctor Who computer game, The Doctor and the Dalek. Designed to help teach school children how to code, and compatible with the computer curriculum of the United Kingdon, the game has already seen one expansion come out. As the program continues to expand, and as technology changes, it could be that the time has come for an additional expansion. If so, hopefully this will bring the game outside the boundaries of the UK.
Of course, given the way that Doctor Who has been in the past, it is equally probable that this trailer has nothing to do with any of these theories. It could be something else entirely, an obvious answer, but one that is easily overlooked.
Regardless of what this is, we know it will involve Daleks, and that it is coming soon. That is all I need to know for me to throw my money towards the BBC and Doctor Who for whatever this is going to be.
