Doctor Who TV: A Doctor Who Special Audio Episode

BBC iPlayer users — get ready for the episode of a lifetime with Doctor Who special audio episode.

More from Doctor Who

Get out your headphones, and make sure you watch the fourth episode, as BBC is set to do something it hasn’t done before with Doctor Who. According to Audio Media International, BBC is going to show us 3D Audio, or binaural sound, during an already suspenseful episode.

What’s said to really freak the viewers out: scuttling termites. Which, with the special binaural sound, will be made like termites are all around the viewer. If bugs freak you out, maybe it’s best you don’t listen with headphones. But that won’t be all you’ll hearing.

The BBC’s official synopsis gives us some idea of what we might hear. Bill moves into a cheap flat, with creaky floorboards and windy moments. The Doctor believes this there is something going on. Starting with the fact that they can’t enter. (Hence the name, I’m guessing)

The special effect episode will only be released on the BBC iPlayer after it airs on BBC One. So it’s unclear if BBC America will have the chance to experience.

The BBC has also not responded to whether it will work with surround sound or televisions.

And BBC America?

This is not the first time that the BBC has used 3D audio, so maybe they will find a way to get it to Americans. It certainly wouldn’t be fair if we missed out on all the creepy and fun! What do we need to do to make sure we get the full experience? A petition? (These are the times I wish the petitions to the White House still happened.)

What kind of aliens and more mysterious things will happen that made BBC add a possibly scarier aspect?  It seems like Knock Knock is going to be suspenseful enough on its own without the audio. I guess after watching the episode (with or without the audio), we’ll see why this episode was chosen.
