Westworld Season 1 took fans on an epic journey; however, that was only the tip of the iceberg.

When it premiered in October 2016, nobody expected Westworld to be HBO’s next big hit. The show itself tackles complex existential issues, while also being set against a western/sci-fi backdrop. The concept alone seems insane on paper; however, the show’s creators have found a way to make it work.

Fans have been kept in the dark regarding Season 2, but their anticipation is growing by the day. So far, HBO has only confirmed a Spring 2018 premiere date. Sure, fans are a bit frustrated with the wait, but given the quality of the first season, we’re sure the next installment will be worth the wait.

Westworld’s first season was incredibly impressive, and introduced fans to a rich world filled with complex characters. The sheer amount of ground the show covered was impressive; however, it was only just the beginning. According to the show’s creator, we’ve only seen a fraction of the story they plan to tell.

It has been over a year since Westworld premiered, but we still no very little about the show’s future. So, what are we as fans to do? Well, we dug through past interviews to see if we could glean any tasty bits of information about the show’s future. In our search, we stumbled across a 2016 interview IndieWire did with the show’s creators, Lisa Joy and Jonathon Nolan. In said interview, Nolan commented on the scale of the story they plan to tell:

"“I have to tell you, we only got through probably an eighth of the wallpaper this season. So there’s more story to tell and the bigger world outside is something that we will get to. But what we’re trying to do is constrain it narratively. But one of the exciting things here is being able to commit upfront to a big, big, big story. Our story is a really big one. It’s the story of the origin of a new species on this planet, and being able to tell that in chapters and commit to aggressive moves season-by-season that propel that story upwards and outwards and inwards. “"

Nolan went on to clarify that they don’t have 8 seasons planned, but that they are only an eighth way through their plan. The first season was massive, so, to know they are only a fraction of the way through is exciting. Also, the concept that Westworld is about a “birth of a new species” is something fan can dig their teeth into for the months until the premiere.
