Bernard Will Be In An Interesting Position In Westworld Season 2

Bernard Lowe was a pivotal character in Westworld Season 1, but what does the future hold for Jeffrey Wright’s character?

Benard Lowe, who was portrayed by the delightful Jeffrey Wright on Westworld, was a pivotal character during the first season. Towards the end of the Season 1, it was revealed that Bernard was a host created by Ford. Audiences followed Bernard as he battled with his own existence and as he faced down the man who created him.

In the end, Ford commanded Bernard to take his own life. However, being a host isn’t without perks. Maeve eventually brought him back online, and for the first time, he was truly free. In the wake of the Season 1 finale, Bernard’s future seems to be his own. Although Dolores’ revolution seems to be the driving force behind Season 2, we were wondering, what does Season 2 hold for Bernard?

Jeffrey Wright Speaks On Bernard’s Position Heading Into Westworld Season 2

[Credit: HBO]Let’s face it, details regarding Westworld Season 2 have been scarce. Most of the information we’ve accumulated has come from interviews done by the cast and creators. Thankfully, we’ve found an older comment from Jeffrey Wright that gives us a hint at what Bernard’s role in Westworld Season 2 will be. In an interview with Business Insider in 2016, Wright said the following about Bernard’s future:

"“Certainly, what we know is that there’s no one in the park who knows the technology now more so than him.  Bernard understands the technology literally inside and out, so he’s in an interesting position when the curtain dropped.”"

This quote is particularly interesting, because it hints at something we hadn’t thought about. Given his skill set and knowledge, Bernard could be one of the most important characters in Westworld Season 2.

Bernard Could Be Extremely Important In Westworld Season 2

We are very aware that Dolores has her agenda and is on a murderous rampage. Which, by all accounts, seems to be the main through line of the coming season. But, beyond Dolores, we aren’t sure where the other characters will fall. We assume that the hosts will join Dolores, but what about Bernard?

He could fight alongside the humans or join the hosts. One thing we do know, is that he is a very valuable person in the park. He knows how the hosts and the park functions, and could turn the tide of war – depending on what side he joins. Sadly, the Season 2 trailer released at SDCC didn’t show much of Bernard, but we saw him riding in the Delos security buggy.

That doesn’t necessarily mean anything in the scope of Season 2, but, for now, he doesn’t seem to have joined Dolores’ army. Given his skills and knowledge, it will be very interesting to see which side he lands on – if he joins at all. Sadly, we still have a few months until Westworld Season 2 drops. Until then, we will continue to speculate on anything and everything Westworld.

Westworld Season 2 will premiere Spring 2018.
