When it comes to Game of Thrones filming, no city has been as associated with King’s Landing as Dubrovnik, Croatia. Although the show didn’t use it as much after season 5, the production has visited the city to shoot scenes for every season starting with season 2, and season 8 is no exception.

As reported by The Dubrovnik Times, the show is loading into the city now, setting up tents to hold camera equipment near the Pile Gate in the Old City of Dubrovnik. That’s near Lovrijenac Fortress, which can be seen in the background of the shot with Tyrion and Varys above; and Pile Bay, where Cersei bid farewell to Myrcella in season 2 and welcomed back her body in season 6.

As in the past few seasons, the production isn’t expected to be in the city for long — after all, when you’ve built a huge King’s Landing set of your own, you might as well use that if you can. Shooting it Dubrovnik is expected to start “any day.” There have been no rumblings about extras, but The Dubrovnik Times reports that “many of the main stars” will be present, including a rumored appearance from Kit Harington (Jon Snow). He’s currently shooting in Iceland, so that will involve some quick travel.

Game of Thrones has had a positive effect on the economy of Dubrovnik, so it’s good to see the show return for one last go-round. Thanks for your service, Dubrovnik.
