Will Hector Escaton Bring The Mayhem To Westworld Season 2?

The Westworld Season 2 trailer showed a glimpse of Hector Escaton, but will he bring the mayhem to Delos?

When showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy said Westworld Season 2 was going to be about chaos, they meant it. The trailer from SDCC 2017 showed a bloody Man in Black and Dolores Abernathy gunning down guests of the park. If that wasn’t enough mayhem for you, then maybe seeing the chaotic gunslinger Hector Escaton (Rodrigo Santoro) will get your heart pumping. Luckily, the trailer released during the Super Bowl proved that Hector will return in season 2.

All we know from the trailer is that he’s teaming back up with Maeve. Hector proved a valuable resource when it came to Maeve wanted to break out of Westworld. He and Armistice joined forces with Maeve in an all out gunfight against the Delos security team. After he sacrificed himself to help Maeve escape, fans were left wondering if Hector Escaton was still alive. Now we know he is coming back,  but in what capacity?

We are just 2 months away from

Westworld

Season 2. Everything we’ve seen so far points to the park being thrown into chaos. Now that Ford has unleashed his final narrative, “Journey Into Night”, the hosts are now sentient and seeking revenge against the guests. Once Maeve (Thandie Newton) made the decision to

turn back and find her daughter

, why would she need Hector Escaton?

Before the latest trailer dropped, the only confirmation about Rodrigo Santoro appearing in Westworld Season 2 was from the Troika Talent agency that represents Santoro:

"“Rodrigo plays the role of Hector in HBO’s hit new series, WESTWORLD, produced by JJ Abrams in which he stars alongside Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, Ed Harris, James Marsden and Thandie Newton. Rodrigo has just completed work on the independent feature, 1989, in which he plays the lead and is filming series II of WESTWORLD.”"

That announcement sent fans into a frenzy wondering if the rest of Hector Escaton’s band of outlaws will join forces again. Then we found out about our favorite female gunslinger with the snake tattoo in her conversation during SDCC 2017. With the confirmation that Armistice (Ingrid Bolsø Berdal), get ready to see some major gunfights. As Hector’s right hand companion, the duo knew how to cause some chaos.

Will We See A Different Side Of Hector Escaton In Westworld Season 2?

The first time we saw Hector Escaton was when he and his gang wrought havoc on the town of Sweetwater during the heist story.  We got an indepth look into Escaton’s character during the conversation in the prison between him and the Man in Black. Escaton uttered his famous line to the Man in Black, “I believe that only the truly brave can look at the world and understand that all of it… gods, men, everything else… will end badly. No one will be saved” was the hallmark of his character. Hector believed that since the world is going to Hell in hand basket, what does it matter if men do evil things? Even his name “Escaton” means the end of the world.

Hector’s role was to give the guests of Westworld a chance to embark on a story to capture the greatest outlaw. It made sense for Maeve to recruit Hector as part of her escape. But finding a lost child doesn’t seem like a path that would entice Hector in season 2. Even if Maeve told him he’ll get a chance to kill some guards. It’s almost as if there is something else that is driving Hector. Maybe it’s a previous reverie that is boiling up from one of his past loops? One of the themes from season one was about the hosts breaking free of their current loops.
