Season 8 filming: The King’s Landing set prepares for battle
By Corey Smith
For months now, HBO has been building its largest practical set ever at Titanic Studios in Belfast, a real-life stand in for King’s Landing. The set is so detailed HBO has already decided to leave it standing after filming is over as a tourist attraction.
There hasn’t been much filming to speak of yet, but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been activity. Let’s look at some of the latest pictures from the set. Beware SPOILERS.
Recently, video emerged of Dothraki and Unsullied forces marching onto the King’s Landing set. We don’t why exactly they’re there, but we can guess they’re going to be fighting. Want proof? Twitter user GoTlike Locations uploaded this photo of what look like a couple Unsullied corpses:
This “corpse blob” will likely be decorated and put on the ground around the set; from a distance, it’ll look like a pile of bodies. The production used similar corpse blobs during filming in front of an enormous green screen at Magheramorne Quarry earlier this year.
There are fortifications inside the walls, too. In the below picture, you can see ground quivers (quivers archers use when they’re shooting from a fixed location) lined up against the crenelations, on the left side of the picture:
Are the arrows tipped with dragonglass, or are they of the old-fashioned variety?
Next, we see the Lannister flag flying above the city:
Also, how much for that house on the hill in the background? You could sit on your porch and watch filming.
There’s a new picture of the front gate, too, decked out with Lannister banners:
And finally, there’s a new shot of the entrance facade to the Red Keep:
You can see yet more pictures at GoTlike Locations.
