Rumor Alert: Melissa McBride (Carol) to show up in The Walking Dead movies?

facebooktwitterreddit

When last we saw Carol (Melissa McBride) and the rest of the good-guy survivors in the penultimate episode The Walking Dead season 10, they were preparing to defend an abandoned hospital from Beta (Ryan Hurst) and the Whisperers, who just so happened to be bringing a massive horde of walkers with them.

And while AMC has plans to air the final episode of season 10 at some point in the near future, rumors that Carol and her pals will be part of another Walking Dead project have been slowly picking up steam.

That project is a trilogy of movies that will focus on Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), the one-time leader of the survivors who left the show in season 9. The rumor comes from We Got This Covered, a site with a patchy track record for rumors…so take this with a grain of salt.

Anyway, the site’s sources claim that McBride will show up in at least one of the three films, although they could not pin down which one.

So that’s not much to go on, although it’s not the first time we’ve heard about other Walking Dead cast members being attached to the movies. Scott M. Gimple — the guy in charge of all things The Walking Dead for AMC — earlier teased that Danai Gurira (Michonne) could possibly join Rick wherever he’s going. The movies will likely explore his involvement with the mysterious Civil Republic Military (CRM), the group that rescued him from certain death in season 9.

According to Gimple, the scale and the budget of the movies are going to be much larger than that of the show. “We are going to continue to tell Rick’s story, and we are going to discover so much of the world through that story,” he said. “Rick will be challenged in different ways that, in some ways, everything that he’s been through has sort of prepared him for.”

Rick even showed up in a teaser for the second Walking Dead spinoff show, World Beyond, which looks like it’ll focus on the CRM, or at least a group that seems to be a part of the CRM.

For now, McBride remains part of The Walking Dead proper, as opposed to Gurira and Lincoln, who have both left even though their characters are still alive. Characters have been known to come and go, like Lauren Cohan (Maggie Greene), who left the show for a while only to come back in the as-yet-unaired season 10 finale. So if McBride is attached to the movies, showrunner Angela Kang should be able to come up with some way of writing Carol out of the main narrative, at least for a little while.
