Murtagh

Whether in the books or on the series, Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) is one of the most beloved characters on Outlander, a hugely important character right up until his death. In the series, Outlander fans bid farewell to Murtagh after he died in the Battle of Alamance last season, making it still quite fresh. (In the books, he dies earlier, at the Battle of Culloden.) We may have gotten more time with Murtagh than anticipated, but it still wasn’t enough.

An Outlander prequel series all about Murtagh would be amazing. I’d love to see his story from the moment he became Jamie’s grandfather all the way up to when we meet him in the first episode of the show.

Fans of the books may know that Murtagh wanted to marry Jamie’s mother, but she ultimately decided to marry Brian Fraser. Despite the heartbreak, Murtagh vowed to stay by Jamie’s side his entire life, protecting him from harm. Learning more about Murtagh’s during these days would be incredibly interesting, starting with his one-sided love story with Ellen Fraser to protecting Jamie as he grew up.

I’d love to see who Murtagh was as a young guy, what his responsibilities were, what type of guy he was, etc. On the series he is Jamie’s dedicated protector, but who was he before all of that? What struggles did he go through as Jamie grew into a boy and young adult?

Murtagh’s backstory isn’t detailed, so digging deeper into it could be a great way for the world of Outlander to grow.
