The Obi-Wan Kenobi show is coming to Disney+ in May 2022
Prepare to freak out, Star Wars fans! The release date for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi show has been confirmed, and it’ll be premiering soon after we all celebrate May the Fourth. The highly-anticipated series will see Ewan McGregor reprise his role as the titular character, with Hayden Christensen set to return as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. It’s a dream come true for those who love the prequel trilogy.
While the nostalgia is real for ’90s kids, fans new and old have been looking forward to the series ever since it was announced back in 2019 at Disney’s D23 event. The streamer took to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon to share the exciting news, along with the first-ever poster, confirming not only that it’ll be a limited series, but also that the name is simply Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Obi-Wan Kenobi release date
Mark your calendars for May 25, 2022, because that’s when we’ll be transported back in time for the premiere of Obi-Wan Kenobi. The series takes place 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (2005). Check out the announcement below!
As we reported just last week, the release month for Obi-Wan Kenobi was all but revealed when Disney+ executive Brandon SanGiovanni seemingly slipped up on Twitter. Taking to his page, he teased a May 2022 release date, writing: “Our very own Obi-Wan [will] be saying ‘hello, there,’ on Disney+… May 2022.”
SanGiovanni soon deleted the tweet, then responded to the buzz by claiming he was referring to the Star Wars: Obi-Wan comic, which will also come out this May. We weren’t exactly buying it, however, since he explicitly mentioned Disney+ in his original tweet.
Well, looks like the cat’s out of the bag now, and fans are thrilled to have the release date confirmation. We suspect a bunch of cool things to be announced in May to coincide with Star Wars Day. Last year, The Bad Batch premiered on May 4. Perhaps this year we’ll get a release date for The Mandalorian season 3, which TV Line just reported should come out in time for Christmas.
No matter what else we get from Disney and Star Wars this May, at least we have Obi-Wan Kenobi to look forward to. We’ll be sure to keep you updated with all the latest news from the series!
