13. Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow

On paper, Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow seem like a good match. They’re young, they’re beautiful, they both have magical pets, and they want to be good leaders. They are also aunt and nephew, although they don’t know this when they consummate their simmering attraction at the end of season 7. Despite all that they’re dealing with at the time — war, White Walkers, Tyrion frowning outside their bedroom — they manage to have an episode’s worth of fun together before the secret gets out and everything goes to hell.

Daenerys goes from seeing Jon as a romantic match to a rival to the Iron Throne, and Jon goes from seeing Daenerys as someone who isn’t his aunt to someone who is. It kills the relationship dead, and when Dany tries to revive it, Jon stabs her in the gut. It really could not have gone any worse.

Maybe in another world, this could have worked. In Westeros, these two were always doomed.
