The new Harry Potter TV series is one of the most highly anticipated new fantasy adaptations in a very long time for most fans of the genre. I can't say I share that sentiment. While I'm happy for all of the new cast and crew getting new opportunities in the space, the new Harry Potter series is quite low on my list of fantasy shows I'm excited to watch right now!

Unfortunately, there aren't that many big, new, and true fantasy shows in the works right now. It's definitely an interesting time for the genre! Fantasy shows like House of the Dragon and The Rings of Power are performing well right now. Other big shows with fantasy elements, like Stranger Things and Wednesday, are wildly popular as well. And, still, Prime Video just canceled The Wheel of Time in the middle of an epic run. Outside of that, more fantasy adaptations are getting shelved than developed in this post-Game of Thrones TV economy. What's next? We don't know!

With that said, there are at least four upcoming fantasy projects fans should be more excited to watch than Harry Potter right now. Let's get that list started with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms!

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

We have to go with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms! Nobody is making fantasy TV over the last decade and some change like HBO, and I can't wait to see what the team has cooked up with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. We're all-in on any Game of Thrones spinoffs, prequels, and sequels, obviously.

The series is based on George R.R. Martin's stories about Dunk and Egg. In the series, which was created by Ira Parker, Peter Claffey stars as Ser Duncan the Tall, also known as Dunk, while Dexter Sol Ansell stars as Egg. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will follow Dunk and Egg's journey around Westeros.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was actually supposed to be released at the end of 2025. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen. Instead, HBO revealed that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be delayed and released sometime in early 2026. So, we're going to be kicking off the new year with a Game of Thrones show? Count us in!

Fourth Wing

Fourth Wing is next up on the list, and we have some excellent news about the upcoming Prime Video series. So, Fourth Wing is based on Rebecca Yarros' Empyrean book series. It's also the title of the first book in the series, which also includes Iron Flame and Onyx Storm. Yarros just shared a new excerpt from Onyx Storm that fans need to read, by the way!

Anyway, Fourth Wing tells the story of Violet Sorrengail, a teenager who becomes a dragon rider. We follow Violet's journey through love, fire, magic, and survival.

We still don't know when to expect Fourth Wing to be released on Prime Video. It's currently in the works, and they just switched showrunners. Jac Schaeffer just took over after Moira Walley-Beckett just left the series. Obviously, that's not the best news, of course, having creative turmoil behind the scenes. With that said, Amazon's Vernon Sanders just made a big promise to Fourth Wing fans that they are going to get this series right.

We're also still waiting on Yarros' fourth book in the series, but it's coming soon-ish. If you like the Harry Potter books, you should definitely read the Fourth Wing book series and these other fantasy book series.

From Blood and Ash

From Blood and Ash is a six-book series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. The TV series has been in development for quite a while, but last year, it was just picked up by Sony. Armentrout announced the news on Instagram, and she shared that the story and characters are once more in great hands."

That's a huge update about the series, but unfortunately, we haven't heard much more! Hopefully, things have not stalled out behind the scenes, but I still have high hopes. This show is going to be hit when it's finally released.

The series tells the story of Poppy, a young woman with a big part to play in her kingdom's future. When Poppy gets a taste of life outside of her responsibilities, she begins on a path she never could have imagined.

If you're ready for some magic and romance, this is going to be the show for you!

Ninth House

Like Fourth Wing, Ninth House is also in development at Prime Video. The book series by Leigh Bardugo begins with Ninth House and continues in Hell Bent. Bardugo is also working on the third and final book of the trilogy that tells the story of Alex Stern, a college student at Yale with powers tries to get to the bottom of various mysteries involving magic and secret societies.

We haven't heard much about the Ninth House series in the works at Amazon since it was picked up a couple of years ago, but these things just take a lot of time.

If you like dark fantasy and magic, Ninth House is definitely the show for you. It's definitely going to be a more mature series than Bardugo's Shadow and Bone, which aired for two seasons on Netflix.

We'll share more news about all of these shows, including Harry Potter, when we find out! If you haven't read these great books and series, you have a lot of time before these shows are released.
