When it aired earlier this year, HBO's Game of Thrones prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was a breakout success. While different to Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon in so many ways, its novel approach was a risk that paid off. The series follows lowly hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), as he vies to make his name in Westeros as an honorable knight. He's joined by his young squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), who is really Prince Aegon Targaryen, the great-grandfather of Daenerys Targaryen.
By the end of season 1, Ser Duncan made huge strides in his quest as a knight. After defeating the cruel Prince Aerion Targaryen (Finn Bennett) during a trial of seven at Ashford Meadow, Dunk departs with his head held high. He and Egg, who lies that he's gotten permission to be his squire, set off together to pursue new adventures. The next season adapts George R.R. Martin's novella "The Sworn Sword," which sees the duo head to a drought-stricken Reach, where Dunk enters the services of proud, elderly knight Ser Eustace Osgrey (Peter Mullen), who's in the midst of a heated land dispute with Lady Rohanne Webber of Coldmoat (Lucy Boynton).
The new season has already made a couple of casting additions for new knights. Notably, Babou Ceesay (Rogue One, Alien: Earth) plays Ser Bennis of the Brown Shield, a fellow hedge knight just like Dunk. The latest casting reveal, as highlighted by reliable scoop site Redanian Intelligence, sees Steven Hartley join the new season. Hartley is well-known among fantasy fans for lending his voice expertise to Prime Video's The Wheel of Time: Origins, an animated series exploring the history of the Wheel of Time world.

Hartley's casting is particularly interesting as the character he portrays, Ser Edger of Coldmoat, does not exist in George R.R. Martin's novels. He's entirely original to the show, likely serving under Lady Webber. Season 1 introduced a few characters that don't appear in the original novella (as expected), but it keeps the lineup of knights in line with the books, expanding roles for some of them. Ser Edger of Coldmoat is a knight completely original to A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 began filming in December 2025 in Ireland. Production later shifted to Gran Canaria in Spain, where it was slightly delayed due to flooding in the area. Filming is expected to wrap this summer, with a release date slated for sometime in 2027.
