Filming on the second season of HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon began in April of 2023 and ended in September. The crew spent the next couple of months getting the footage into good enough shape to release a snazzy teaser trailer in December. The cast and crew returned to set in February to do some reshoots. Now those have wrapped up as well, according to reliable insiders Redanian Intelligence. All that's left is to enjoy the new season of House of the Dragon when it premieres in June.
Reshoots on big movies or shows are fairly common, although the cast and crew of House of the Dragon were at it for a minute. We suspect this may have something to do with the second season shooting through the actors and writers strikes that shut down much of Hollywood in 2023. House of the Dragon was able to get around those strikes because it was filming stuff mainly in England, which has strict labor laws that aren't generous to unions. However, under the strike rules, writers would have been barred from changing dialogue on the fly during shooting, hence the need to come back later and touch up things that didn't quite work in the moment.
We've heard that the reshoots touched on some major scenes, including a spectacular battle sequence the cast and crew spent a long time filming in August. We don't know who all was involved in the reshoots, although it looks like Phoebe Campbell (Rhaena Targaryen) and Bethany Antonia (Baela Targaryen) were both there, as was Max Wrottesley, who plays Ser Lorent Marbrand of Rhaenyra Targaryen's Queensguard.
We're getting close, people. My gut says that HBO will drop a proper trailer for House of the Dragon season 2 in the near future:
