Invincible season 2, part 2 FINALLY gets a release date!
By Dan Selcke
The first season of Invincible, Amazon Prime Video's animated adaptation of Robert Kirkman's superhero comic, premiered in 2021, and it was good. People loved the earnest superhero drama, the brutal ultra-violence, and the budding world-building. Sure, we had to wait a couple years for more episodes, but at least they were good when they arrived this past November.
And then, after only four new episodes, things went dark, with no sign of when we were going to get more. Finally, today, Amazon announced that four more episodes — the back half of Invincible season 2 — will arrive on March 14.
It's still a bit unclear why there was this gap. Maybe it was because the actors and writers strikes in 2023 pushed things back a bit. Maybe it's because Invincible is animated the old-fashioned way, with a minimum of CGI, which takes longer. But who cares? Mark Grayson, Omni-Man, Atom Eve, Allen the Alien and the rest of this motley crew of superheroes and villains are finally on their way back!
When last we left Mark, he was bloodied and beaten after he and his father Omni-Man fought a trio of Viltrumite soldiers. They both survived, but Omni-Man is crippled and being carted off by the Viltrumites to stand what I assume will be a very one-sided trial. Meanwhile, Mark has been assigned to take his dad's old post on Earth, readying it for a Viltrumite takeover. Omni-Man told Mark to read his books, whatever that means.
Actor Fred Tatasciore, who voices multiple roles on the show, recently teased what to expect. "All I'm gonna say to you is it gets weirder and weirder and weirder – and fun, in a good way! It's a lot of crazy aliens, I'll say that." And creator Robert Kirkman said the new episodes will "hit the ground running." Bring it on!
