The second season of House of the Dragon premieres in just a couple of weeks. If you'll remember, the first season ended with the death of young Lucerys Velaryon, killed by his own uncle Aemond Targaryen during a dragon chase gone wrong. Luke's mother Rhaenyra was devastated and furious when she heard. This pretty much guarantees that there will be war between these two rival factions of the Targaryen dynasty. Strap in.

The cast is doing full court press to promote the show. Matt Smith, who plays Rhaenyra's mercurial husband Daemon Targaryen, recently appeared on CBS Mornings to tease what we can expect from Daemon this season. That's interesting by itself, but the show also dropped a brand new clip, which starts around the 0:39 mark. Watch below:

In the clip, Daemon and his cousin Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) talk about Rhaenrya's reaction to news of her son's death. Apparently she's mounted her dragon Syrax to go look for Luke's body, something we saw her doing in the trailers for the new season. Or at least that's what we think she's doing in this shot, where she and Syrax survey Shipbreaker Bay near Storm's End:

Daemon worries about Rhaenyra going off to look for Luke's body on her own, worrying that Aemond might accost her on his massive dragon Vhagar. "Then I would pity Aemond," Rhaenys says. That's a nice thought, although somehow I don't think Rhaenyra's indomitable spirit would help protect her from the oldest and largest dragon in the world.

Rhaenys also praises Rhaenyra for not acting on a "vengeful impulse" and struck back at Aemond, his brother King Aegon, and their followers, something that almost certainly escalate tensions even further. Then again, Rhaenyra did look radiant with rage at the end of season 1, so we'll see how long she can hold that back. And if she can, Daemon may act on her behalf, whether she wants it or not.

The second season of House of the Dragon premieres on HBO and Max on Sunday, June 16. It's just a couple of weeks off now! It looks like the episodes will be longer, and we can pretty much guarantee that the action will be bloodier. Good times will be had by all.
