The first episode of Outlander, the time-traveling drama based on the book series by Diana Gabaldon, aired back in August of 2014, just over 10 years ago. The cast and crew have been making the series for even longer. And the other day, they reached a milestone that few series can boast of: they filmed their 100th episode!

Cast members Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser), Caitriona Balfe (Claire Fraser), David Berry (Lord John Grey) and executive producer Matthew B. Roberts marked the occasion by cutting into a cake labeled "Outlander 100 episodes." The honors went to Heughan, who cut the thing with a sword, because of course:

"This is amazing. This doesn't happen very often — a century of TV," Balfe said in a video shared by Entertainment Weekly.

One thing I have to note: Heughan is rocking a flowy, long-haired wig that makes him look like he stepped off the cover of a romance novel from the '90s. That's neither here nor there, but hair matters to Outlander fans, so it's worth bringing up.

You should also know that the 100th episode of Outlander is part of the show's eighth and final season. In fact, it's the penultimate episode of the show overall! But we won't see it for a while. The second half of Outlander season 7 is coming out on November 22. We don't yet have a release date for season 8, but filming has been going on for a while and will wrap up this year. It's possible that means we could be watching the final episodes in 2025, but given how long waits between seasons of big genre shows like this have become de riguer, I wouldn't rule out a 2026 release date.

in the meanwhile, Starz will probably air the first season of new Outlander spinoff Blood of my Blood, a prequel series that explores the lives of Jamie and Claire's parents, after Outlander season 7 ends but before season 8 begins.
