We have some great news to share about Wednesday season 2! Jenna Ortega and the rest of the cast and crew are reportedly starting production on the new season in April 2024.

According to the Film & Television Industry Alliance, production on Wednesday season 2 begins on April 30 in London. Screen Rant first reported the news.

It's been a long time since Wednesday premiered on Netflix on Nov. 23, 2022. We had heard production on season 2 was supposed to begin in the fall of 2023, but that was pushed because of the writers' and actors' strikes. Deadline reported in November that production was moving from Romania, where the first season was filmed, to Ireland for season 2. The outlet also was the first to report that production would begin in the spring of 2024, so we've been expecting production to start soon.

The latest filming news involves London, which is not Ireland, so it's unclear what that means and if production is also starting in Ireland in April. What's on Netflix reported on March 31 that the production is looking for extras in Ireland for season 2.

Wednesday season 2 is coming to Netflix in 2025

Production will reportedly continue from April through basically the end of 2024. Early reports mention a November wrap date for Wednesday season 2, but many productions shut down in December for the holidays anyway. That means that Wednesday season 2 isn't coming to Netflix in 2024. Deadline confirmed as much at the beginning of this year. And Wednesday was on Netflix's list of shows being bumped to 2025.

If production actually ends in November, we could see Wednesday season 2 on Netflix as early as the summer of 2025, which is the time most people are expecting to see Stranger Things season 5. That's also reportedly wrapping around the same time as Wednesday season 2. Netflix will not release both of these shows in the same quarter. They are two of the biggest shows of all time for the streamer. More likely than not, one show will get a summer 2025 premiere date while the other will get pushed to the fourth quarter or the holiday season of 2025.

I'm willing to bet that will be Wednesday season 2! It just feels more a like Halloween show than Stranger Things. Plus, we've seen three out of four Stranger Things seasons premiere in July. It feels like July 2025 for Stranger Things season 5, but that prediction could be wrong if Netflix has other plans.

So, this is a bit of good news and a bit of bad news. Production is starting! Yay; good news! But, it's still going to be a really long time until Wednesday season 2 premieres on Netflix. At least we have House of the Dragon season 2 coming in June, right?
