Rebecca Yarros expressed profound disappointment in a post on her Instagram Story after Spotify accidentally leaked a portion of Threshing Day over the weekend.
"For everyone in the back who didn't hear me the first time," Yarros posted over a screenshot of an older plea to stop spoilers from leaking. "This is why we can't have nice things. @spotify"
The leak comes literally days after Yarros specifically asked those who work behind the scenes of the publishing industry not to leak spoilers or share information about Threshing Day before its release date on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
When Onyx Storm, the third book of The Empyrean series, was released in January 2025, those who work in publishing and bookstores actually got their hands on the book early and shared spoilers before Fourth Wing fans were even able to read the book. In an effort to stop that from happening with Threshing Day, Yarros posted a plea on social media for everyone to be extra careful so fans can experience the magic at the same time without it getting ruined. Here's what she said:
"Ok, let's be honest. I wanted to drop Threshing Day as a complete surprise. No preorder. No announcement. No cover reveal. Just joy. The publishing industry told me we couldn't do that because someone would inevitably leak it. That was what happened with Onyx Storm and that book had been widely announced. Spoilers hit the internet, and it was heartbreaking."
This is basically Michael Scott's "You cheated on me when I specifically asked you not to?" line from The Office playing out in real life.
I'm not going to share what part of the audiobook was shared on Spotify. That information is out there if you wish to find it, but I would rather not go against the author's simple wish for readers to get to share something special like Threshing Day together without everyone getting spoiled with specific bits of character information.
Threshing Day is a collection of 13 stories of characters from within The Empyrean book series. We don't know who those 13 characters will be, but we do know that each story takes place on their Threshing Day, which is the day they met and bonded with their dragons.
This is a super exciting project for a lot of Fourth Wing fans because it's going to be the first time we're in the heads and learn the real stories of Threshing Day for a number of characters. Again, we don't know who those characters are, but from what fans are expecting, it could be a massive development for what's to come in Book 4 of The Empyrean series and beyond.
Hopefully, this is the last we'll hear of any leaks or spoilers from Threshing Day, but we're still about two weeks out from the release date. I'm assuming, based on previous highly anticipated new releases, that there will be leaks and spoilers and things of that nature happening before Tuesday, Sept. 29. So, I'm choosing to take some precautions with some social media filters. I highly recommend fans who don't want spoilers to do the same!
We'll share more news and updates about Threshing Day when we find out! Yarros is heading out on a book tour for Threshing Day, but as of right now, there are only slots available for the New York City experience. The Denver, Los Angeles, and Seattle events are already sold out.
