It's time to return for to Westeros for a brand new episode of Take the Black, the podcast where Winter Is Coming editor Daniel Roman and Marq Nettles of House of Nettles discuss all the latest and most exciting news coming out of the Seven Kingdoms, as well as the realms of fantasy and sci-fi at large. With House of the Dragon's third season fading into the rearview, it's time for a few other Game of Thrones adaptations to rise to the forefront.
In this episode, we touch briefly on the exciting announcement that the Game of Thrones: The Mad King play is heading to London! Does this mean Marq or I will be able to see it? Probably not! But many, many more people will get the chance to than during the show's initial run at Stratford-upon-Avon this summer, and that's great news. We address the odds of the play being recorded for HBO Max or sent over to Broadway, because The Mad King is taking the stage by storm.
But by far the biggest thing in Westeros to talk about right now is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is in the thick of its first bid for Emmy Awards. It already nabbed a win for Outstanding Stunt Performance, but can it take home the big one: Outstanding Drama Series? We have some opinions; join us:
The Emmy Award ceremony takes place on September 14, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT, streaming on Peacock. We'll find out how A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms fares then. The competition is stiff, but no matter what, it's clear that Dunk and Egg have made a smashing first impression to get even this far. Who knows, maybe our underdog knight and his precocious squire can pull off one more upset. They managed at Ashford Meadow, after all.
We also dig into the new trailer for Avatar: Seven Havens, the upcoming sequel series to the Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra animated series, premiering October 9 on Paramount+. Marq and I both have history with Avatar, and lots of thoughts about how this futuristic take on the franchise could go. Will it be a dud, or a breath of fresh air?
