Tonight Netflix is throwing out announcements left and right, thanks to its Tudum celebration. We saw new footage from Wednesday season 2, a teaser for Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, a new casting announcement for One Piece season 2, a trailer for Squid Game season 3, and of course the big kahuna, an insane release date announcement for Stranger Things 5. It was a lot.

So much so that Amazon Prime Video might have been feeling a little FOMO, because at the exact same time the streamer decided to announce the release date for the second season of Gen V, the college spinoff of its subversive superhero show The Boys. Season 2 will premiere on September 17, 2025. There's also a trailer, which you can watch right here:

Gen V season 2 trailer

Season 1 of Gen V ended with Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) and her friends getting imprisoned following a riot at Godolkin University, where the sadistic head supe from The Boys, Homelander (Antony Starr) was forced to step in and lay down the law. What happens next for them has been a bit of an open question, especially since Homelander essentially took over the Presidency of the United States. He's now pushing his own supe-first agenda, coralling up resisters including main characters from The Boys and tossing them into camps.

But in his heart of hearts, he still wants all the supes to get along and serve his aims. And thus, Marie, Emma (Lizze Broadway), and Jordan (London Thor/Derek Luh) are all brought back to Godolkin, where they're to be indoctrinated into a new superhuman army courtesy of Midnight Mass star Hamish Linklater, who plays the new dean Cipher.

Linklater had an amazing turn in Mike Flanagan's Midnight Mass, and I have a feeling he's about to have another one here. He's excellent at playing earnestly creepy zealots who you can't quite love or hate, and that's exactly the sort of energy I could see adding a lot to a show like Gen V.

There are also multiple cameos from The Boys mothership show being frontloaded into this trailer, including Firecracker (Valorie Curry) and The Deep (Chace Crawford). It seems like this season will tie even more tightly with the main series, which makes total sense given the world-changing way that The Boys season 4 left off. Here's the official description for season 2:

"School is back in session. As the rest of America adjusts to Homelander's iron fist, back at Godolkin University, the mysterious new Dean preaches a curriculum that promises to make students more powerful than ever. Cate and Sam are celebrated heroes, while Marie, Jordan, and Emma reluctantly return to college, burdened by months of trauma and loss. But parties and classes are hard to care about with war brewing between Humans and Supes, both on and off campus. The gang learns of a secret program that goes back to the founding of Godolkin University that may have larger implications than they realize. And, somehow, Marie is a part of it."

Gen V season 2 also stars Maddie Phillips (Cate Dunlap), Asa Germann (Sam Riordan), and Sean Patrick Thomas (Polarity). It premieres September 17 on Prime Video.
